Hello, dear Hive community,
We started our ascent to the summit called the Red Edge (1913 meters) early in the morning at 4.30 am. The power and light of the full moon replaced our headlamps in the beginning. We only started using it when the path was more difficult to spot and when it became too dangerous. It was so calm and peaceful, being the only one under the big mountain rage. We passed several mountain cabins where shepherds were slowly waking up or were already looking for cows to bring them into the stable for the morning milking.
We carried a minimal backpack with food and warm clothes. This allowed us to be very fast, and we did not need any major breaks. To reach the top, we only required around two hours.
At night, we only heard the sounds of the stags, as it is now their mating season and are really active. On a blade of grass we spotted a micro mouse looking at us with big black popped-out eyes. As it slowly got brighter, all the beetles and crickets, started to speak in tune.
On the high ground, if you are lucky enough and have a sharp eye, you can see a special flower called Edelweiß in Deutsch or Planika in Slovenian (Leontopodium alpinum). It is protected and endemic to the Alps. We spotted 5 of them along the way. They were so beautiful!
A strong, cold wind reminded us that we had reached the top. We hurried along the path to catch the sunrise and arrived just in time at 6.57. The weather was clear and cloudless. Silence reigned, interrupted now and then by birdsong. We watched the rising sun and warmed ourselves with a cup of tea and a sip of Icelandic spirit. The state and feeling you experience at such moments are simply too beautiful to describe. From the top we watched a group of sheeps and wild gams grazing on the nearby mountains.
After breakfast, which we had prepared the day before, we wanted to continue the hike, and we conquered two more peaks - Lužniški vrh (2032 meters) and Škofič (2013 meters). If the way ahead had been passable, we would have made a circular route, but for safety's sake we turned around and took the same route back home.
We wish you a wonderful day.
Thank you for reading 😁
See you in the next one.
