Hola from CDMX, guys! My sixth trip to Mexico has begun and I've visited the Mexican capital just as often. I've now spent more than half a year in Mexico City already, but there are still many sights and neighborhoods that I don't know yet. My girlfriend and I visited one of these neighborhoods the day before yesterday. I'm talking about the student district of Copilco Universidad.
Hola aus CDMX, Leute! Meine mittlerweile sechste Reise nach Mexiko hat gestartet und genauso oft besuchte ich bereits die mexikanische Hauptstadt. Inzwischen habe ich bereits über ein halbes Jahr in Mexico City verbracht und trotzdem gibt es noch viele Sehenswürdigkeiten und Stadtviertel, die ich noch nicht kenne. Eines dieser Viertel besuchten meine Freundin und ich vorgestern. Ich spreche vom Studenten-Viertel Copilco Universidad.
Mexico City has a huge, autonomously administered university city called UNAM. I already told you about it in this article last year. But of course the many thousands of students also have to live somewhere - and this is where Copilco Universidad comes into play. This neighborhood is full of cheap restaurants, stores, market stalls and, of course, young people who spend their free time here.
Mexico City verfügt über eine riesige, autonom verwaltete Universitätsstadt namens UNAM. In diesem Beitrag hatte ich euch bereits letztes Jahr darüber berichtet. Doch die vielen tausenden Studenten müssen natürlich auch irgendwo wohnen, ausgehen, leben – und genau hier kommt Copilco Universidad ins Spiel. Dieses Viertel ist voll mit günstigen Restaurants, Shops, Marktständen und natürlich jungen Leuten, die hier ihre Freizeit verbringen.
The word "Tesis" can be found on numerous signs and on every street corner here. It marks stores where students can have their work printed out. For us, however, the culinary highlights were particularly interesting. We visited one of the many mini-restaurants serving Asian cuisine and found the food very tasty. I finally had the opportunity to enjoy a so-called Eskimo at a market stall. This is a kind of milkshake that consists almost entirely of fine foam, which retains its consistency for a surprisingly long time and doesn't collapse after a few minutes, as you might expect. The drink has become a rarity in Mexico. If you have the opportunity, you should definitely try it!
Das Wort "Tesis" findet man hier auf zahlreichen Schildern und an jeder Straßenecke. Es markiert Shops, in denen sich die Studierenden ihre Arbeiten ausdrucken lassen können. Für uns waren aber vor allem die kulinarischen Highlights interessant. So besuchten wir eines, der zahlreichen Mini-Restaurants mit asiatischer Küche und fanden das Essen sehr lecker. An einem Marktstand hatte ich endlich mal wieder die Gelegenheit einen sogenannten Eskimo zu genießen. Es handelt sich dabei um eine Art Milchshake, der fast nur aus feinem Schaum besteht, welcher seine Konsistenz erstaunlich lange bewahrt und nicht nach wenigen Minuten in sich zusammenfällt, wie man vermuten könnte. Das Getränk ist in Mexiko eine Rarität geworden. Falls ihr die Gelegenheit habt, solltet ihr es aber unbedingt mal probieren!
Within the district, it was sometimes really difficult to stop and take photos. You usually only see crowds like this in the center of Mexico City. The whole district has a very special vibe that I had never experienced before in Mexico - very international and somehow it reminded me of Asia and Tokyo in particular. Our walk finally took us to Copilco metro station, which was also surrounded by numerous market stalls. From here you can take line 3 directly to the center of the capital.
Innerhalb des Viertels war es teilweise wirklich schwer, stehenzubleiben und zu fotografieren. Solche Menschenmassen sieht man sonst eigentlich nur im Zentrum von Mexiko Stadt. Das ganze Viertel hat einen ganz besonderen Vibe, den ich so bisher noch noch nicht erlebt hatte in Mexiko – sehr international und irgendwie erinnerte es mich an Asien und besonders an Tokio. Unser Spaziergang führte uns schließlich zur Metro-Station Copilco, die ebenfalls von zahlreichen Marktständen umgeben war. Von hier kann man mit der Linie 3 direkt ins Zentrum der Hauptstadt fahren.
My girlfriend told me that the wide main street in front of the metro station turns into an even bigger market every Saturday. I can hardly wait to see it. Luckily, our accommodation is only a five-minute walk away. Copilco Universidad really fascinated me and I'm already looking forward to my next walk in this vibrant university district.
Meine Freundin erzählte mir, dass sich die breite Hauptstraße vor der Metro-Station jeden Samstag in einen noch viel größeren Markt verwandelt. Ich kann es kaum erwarten, diesen zu sehen. Zum Glück liegt unsere Unterkunft nur einen fünfminütigen Fußweg entfernt. Copilco Universidad hat mich wirklich fasziniert und ich freue mich bereits auf den nächsten Spaziergang in diesem pusierenden Universitäts-Viertel.
