Firefighter for a day
Cuando era niña, solía decir que sería Doctora, Chef, Arquitecto, Cantante y cualquier cosa que me llamara la atención en el momento y es que los niños son un lienzo en blanco lleno de sueños, hoy quieren ser o aprender un oficio y mañana desean aprender otro.
Hoy mi hijo, tenía una actividad en el Preescolar, relacionada con el día del trabajador, mi niño fue vestido de Bombero y mi sobrina Camila de Veterinario, salieron de casa tan felices y emocionados por sus trajes, que nos contagiaron esa alegría. Fue un momento muy bonito, llegar al Preescolar y ver a todos los niños representando distintas profesiones, hasta un astronauta fue hoy a la escuela y eso me hizo recordar esa época en la que imaginaba y me preguntaba que sería de grande.
La profesora, me dijo que sí quería podía quedarme a ver la actividad y por supuesto no lo dude ni un segundo, porque sinceramente estaba esperando eso, ya que ellos habían estado ensayando un pequeño baile y mientras pueda estar ahí apoyando a mi hijo, lo haré encantada. Los niños salieron a la cancha y allí los esperaba los demás niños de las otras secciones y algunos representantes que nos quedamos a ver su presentación. Ellos son los más pequeñitos del colegio e hicieron lo mejor que pudieron para realizar su sencilla coreografía. Qué bueno, que me quedé porque fue un momento especial y divertido, me alegro la mañana. Y estoy segura, que era un sentimiento compartido con todos los representantes que se quedaron, todos grabando y sacando fotos, emocionados de ver a los niños con sus bellos trajes.
La actividad duró pocos minutos y mientras regresaba a casa, comencé a reflexionar un poco sobre esto y la importancia o el objetivo detrás de esta actividad, así que quise compartirlo con ustedes el día de hoy.
When I was a little girl, I used to say that I would be a Doctor, Chef, Architect, Singer and anything else that caught my attention at the time. And that's because kids are a blank canvas full of dreams. Today they want to be or learn a trade and tomorrow they want to learn something else.
Today my son had an activity at Preschool related to Labor Day. My son was dressed as a firefighter and my niece Camila as a veterinarian. They left the house so happy and excited about their costumes that they contagiously spread that joy. It was a very nice moment, arriving at Preschool and seeing all the kids representing different professions, even an astronaut went to school today and that made me remember that time when I used to imagine and wonder what I would be when I grew up.
The teacher told me that if I wanted to, I could stay and watch the activity and of course I didn't hesitate for a second, because I was actually looking forward to it, since they had been rehearsing a small dance. And as long as I can be there supporting my son, I will do it gladly. The kids went out to the field and there were other kids from other sections and some representatives who stayed to watch their presentation. They are the youngest in the school and they did the best they could to perform their simple choreography. It's good that I stayed because it was a special and fun moment. I'm glad I did. And I'm sure it was a shared feeling with all the representatives who stayed, all of them recording and taking pictures, excited to see the kids in their beautiful costumes.
The activity only lasted a few minutes and while I was on my way home, I started to reflect a little bit on this and the importance or the goal behind this activity, so I wanted to share it with you today.

Es muy importante que los niños conozcan y entiendan que todos tenemos un rol en la sociedad y cada uno de estos tienen un gran valor, desde el ama de casa que trabaja por construir una familia, hasta el Doctor más reconocido que salva vidas diariamente. Todos, absolutamente todos, son valiosos y sin alguno de ellos el mundo sería un verdadero caos.
La educación de los niños debe hacerse pensando en su futuro, queremos que su vida adulta sea feliz, que sean buenas personas, independientes, estables y aporten al mundo, enseñarles el inmenso abanico de oficios y profesiones que existen, no solo los ayudara a aprender a respetarlos y apreciarlos, sino que además podrán descubrir sus habilidades y talentos desde pequeños.
Permitir que ellos jueguen al Doctor, a la maestra o al Bombero, les ayudara a desarrollar su creatividad, su imaginación, les ayudara a mejorar su vocabulario y puede ser el juego perfecto para que nosotros los adultos pasemos tiempo con ellos.
Angel, le gusta jugar al Doctor, cuando estamos acostados viendo TV. También, dice que será cocinero y siempre está en la cocina ayudándome con la comida, otras veces juega al Policía o al Bombero, si no es que está cantando con un envase de refresco como micrófono, estos juegos son saludables para él, lo distraen y le ayudan con su desarrollo.
It is very important that children know and understand that we all have a role in society and each one of these has great value, from the housewife who works to build a family, to the most recognized Doctor who saves lives daily. All, absolutely everyone, is valuable and without any of them the world would be a real chaos.
The education of children should be done thinking about their future, we want their adult life to be happy, that they be good people, independent, stable and contribute to the world, teach them the immense range of trades and professions that exist, not only will it help them learn to respect and appreciate them, but they will also be able to discover their skills and talents from an early age.
Allowing them to play Doctor, Teacher or Fireman will help them develop their creativity, their imagination, help them improve their vocabulary and can be the perfect game for us adults to spend time with them.
Angel likes to play Doctor when we are lying down watching TV. Also, he says he will be a cook and is always in the kitchen helping me with food, other times he plays Police or Fireman, if he is not singing with a soda can as a microphone, these games are healthy for him, they distract him and help with his development.

What we should not do.
Frustrar los sueños de un niño, definitivamente es algo que jamás deberíamos hacer. Dejemos que sueñen libremente y no manchemos sus ilusiones con frases como: Eso no da dinero, debes escoger una carrera mejor, en estos tiempos no vale la pena, mira a tu tía, es Ingeniero, pero no tiene dinero y pare de contar.
No dejemos que los prejuicios alimenten la mente soñadora de un niño, que solo está comenzando a conocer el mundo.
No planeemos su vida, su destino, ni tratemos de vivir nuestros sueños a través de ellos. Las profesiones u oficios no se heredan. Ellos son libres y tienen el derecho de elegir, nosotros el deber de guiarlos, aconsejarlos y apoyarlos.
It's definitely something we should never do to frustrate a child's dreams. Let them dream freely and don't mar their illusions with phrases like: "That doesn't make money, you have to choose a better career, it's not worth it these days, look at your aunt, she's an engineer but she doesn't have any money," and so on.
Let's not allow prejudices to feed the dreaming mind of a child who is just starting to get to know the world.
Let's not plan their life, their destiny, or try to live our dreams through them. Professions or trades are not inherited. They are free and have the right to choose, we have the duty to guide them, advise them, and support them.
