What's your opinion on Play2Earn games compared to traditional #gaming? Here's my answer I'm archiving from a DBuzz thread about Play 2 Earn games.

Below are a few of my comments in a DBuzz thread by @retzark. He asked the question "How do you think P2E will compare to traditional video games in terms of overall gameplay experience?"
How P2E Compares to Traditional Video Games?
[ * ] Now & in the near future?!
They are, & will be seen as completely different things.
P2E aren't even considered games by Gaming Communities. They're seen as investments at best & gambling/money-burning at worst. For a good reason. Most of them were created with money in mind!
[ * ] I'm in so many Gaming Discord groups. Just mention NFTs and
They're similar to Gacha despite being the opposite in execution. Unless a P2E game did something entirely innovative, they'll fall into the same abyss as gacha. They all become an addictive chore after a while!
I'll add that if Play2Earn games found a nice balance between enjoyment and earning, it won't be so bad... They shouldn't let the earning part be the main focus, because people are willing to pay for something that adds to their experience but will feel bad if they felt like they wasted their time even if they got paid for it.
Becoming the Norm?
In this thread I saw a comment from @chrisrice saying he thinks "all games will eventually become #P2E." This made me jump quickly typing: "No they won't!"
Below are some of my comments I posted in that conversation, though @chrisrice offered some compelling counterpoints that you could check if you cliked the links marked with "[ * ]". The thread was a bit long, so I'm only highlighting parts of it here:
[ * ] At least most video games shouldn't have money involved with the player if they want players to keep having fun.
[ * ] As someone who has seen what microtransactions did to how the traditional games were before 2006, it's terrifying to think about.
(This is assuming P2E systems will stay like the current ones, but unless they stop putting Money before "Fun." They'll change for the worse.)
[ * ] One thing MMOs/MOBAs & #Play2Earn games have in common is that they become a chore after a while... A chore you feel compelled to do for money is mentally bad, and if you advertise it as a game, it becomes even worse!
[ * ] There's a reason Nintendo are the most consistent at making popular games, it's because they always make being fun their priority.
I guess, I'm just [too inside] the gaming community and you're [too outside] of it for both of us to comment on this objectively. Haha.
I also mentioned that it's not only a gaming problem. Anything could be gamified including Hive:
[ * ] If a new $HIVE Interface comes today that has game mechanics (or Skinner Box tricks) as posting incentives, many people will start posting, just to earn more points & to hear the level-up jingle.
Good for Hive but bad for mental health.
The responses I got from him weren't enough to change my mind, but they gave me food for thought. @chrisrice was hopeful of this technology, and reminded me that people need tend to go to extremes in order to find Balance. Makes me look forward to what will happen in the Play2Earn space.
The future is unpredictable after all, and only God knows what destiny has in store for us.
What Do You Think?
