Over the weekend
, I had the opportunity to once again indulge in the sport of Pickleball
, a beloved companion of mine over the past three years. Pickleball
, a sport that has been gaining traction, especially so in Singapore, combines the elements of table tennis, tennis, and badminton, resulting in a thrilling and accessible game that is perfect for friends seeking a fun-filled experience. Motivated by @ace108's recent blog post on Pickleball
training, I was inspired to organize a Pickleball
session with my friends as well! 😁
Discovering Pickleball During Covid
During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, when we were stuck in a semi-state of lockdown and limited to mingling in groups of no more than five people in Singapore, finding recreational activities became a challenge. It was during this time that a close friend introduced me to Pickleball
. The simplicity of the sport, coupled with its adaptability to the restricted conditions then, made it the perfect choice for us 😅
One of the main advantages of Pickleball
is its ease of setup. All we needed was a public multi-purpose court, a few Pickleball
paddles, a plastic ball similar to the one used in Floorball, and a net. Fortunately, there is an available court that was near my flat, and we quickly gathered the necessary equipment by purchasing them over at Amazon. The affordability of the equipment also made it feasible for all of us to get involved without breaking the bank 🤗
Starting from Scratch
What made our Pickleball
journey even more exciting was the fact that none of us had any prior experience with the sport. We were all beginners, eager to learn and improve together. The shared journey of starting from zero and progressing as a team created a sense of camaraderie among us. We practiced basic shots, learned the rules, and developed our own playing styles. It was a testament to the power of sports to bring people together and create lasting memories 😊
Here is a short YouTube video that provides a brief introduction to Pickleball
As we played more and more Pickleball
matches, we fell in love with the sport. The fast-paced nature of the game, combined with the strategic elements borrowed from table tennis, tennis, and badminton, kept us engaged and entertained. We would lose track of time, engrossed in intense rallies, laughter, and friendly banter. Pickleball
brought out our competitive sides, but it also served as a platform for unwinding and having fun with friends! 😀

Pickleball
became more than just a sport for us; it became a social outlet during a time when social interactions were limited. We would eagerly anticipate our weekend
sessions, catching up on each other's lives, sharing stories, and supporting one another both on and off the court. The bonds we forged through pickleball extended beyond the sport itself, fostering a stronger sense of friendship and community. If you're looking for an exciting and accessible sport to try with your friends, I highly recommend giving Pickleball
a shot. Who knows, it might just become your new favorite pastime! 😜
