Weekend Engagement : Weekend of Solitude

I would like to tell you about the weekend at G-Dog's house but we have a rule. The rule is we don't talk about what goes on at G-Dog's house. Therefore I will tell you about my weekend of solitude.

It is actually pretty good timing because I have an actual weekend of solitude fast approaching and I should plan how that would look. A weekend of solitude is quite special to me because since being married with children, having time for solitude is not so often.

The weekend of solitude brings back memories of living in a time BK (before kids). Whilst having kids is one of the best things in life, sometimes it is good to have a little break from them to clear your head and recharge your batteries.

You cannot beat sitting in your home and enjoying the total silence. No electronic devices on, no TV or anything, just total stillness. The other good feeling is that you don't need to plan or do anything. It's ok to skip a meal and just enjoy the quietness.

My perfect weekend of solitude would start on a friday which would of course be a day off leading up to this weekend. The great thing about friday mornings is that people are at work so you also have some quiteness about the neighbourhood too.

After getting up late, I would take care of all the usual things and then spend an hour or so in the garden before it starts getting hot. Picking some weeds, mowing the grass.

With this out of the way, I could then run some errands, pick up some food for the weekend and then return home. After eating some lunch I would clean the house to make sure everything is in order. For some reason I really like to have "Ordnung" although its an unachieveable goal for me.

Once this is done, I wonder why I haven't been interrupted yet and realise, this is my weekend of solitude. It's friday night so I can listen to my favourite streamers and musicians uninterrupted and on the main TV. The time is flying by and I notice it is getting late. Should I just sleep on the sofa?

Saturday morning arrives and I awake hazily. There is a huge space in the bed for me to stretch. The solitude continues. There is no sound except for the birds chirping outside.

The day has no appointments. No meetings are planned. I could go out, but decide to stay in with the quiet house. The quiet is very soothing for my mind. I complete a DIY task I had been putting off for a while. Organise some paperwork that had been laying around.

The evening is free to do as I please. It is a very warm evening. The only sound is the humming of the fan. I go outside and see the sun set and shape of the moon in the sky. There is some bustle from the nearby roads with people going about their business. My business today is that there is no business.

The time seems to go quickly. The evening cools down and I retire for the evening.

I awake from my stupor on Sunday. Mind and body refreshed and it is still the weekend. It is great to appreciate things when you dont have them very often.

Thanks for reading.
