Abundance - Day Out Picking Strawberries

The weather was looking great today, not too hot but still mostly sunny weather and only a few clouds in the skies. It was warm at around 20 celsius so we took the opportunity in the afternoon to go strawberry picking.

We like to go every year during the season as you cannot beat a good bit of exercise and to pick up some tasty locally grown strawberries. The trick is to usually go after there has been a few days of good weather with lots of sun.

My son was our chief strawberry tester of the day and was on the lookout for big strawberries and very red ones. With his assigned mission he led the way and shouted out to us when he found them.

Despite the fields being quite busy, there was plenty of strawberries to be easily picked. We all went to work picking and testing the strawberries.

Once we had picked our strawberries, we needed to then go and weigh them for paying. It is lucky they didn't weigh us before and after or it could have been quite expensive!

Once we got back to the hut for weighing, it worked out at just under 3 kilos of strawberries that we picked. Today we didn't want to get too many, so we have an opportunity to go again soon.

The prices have gone up quite a bit this year to €5,50 per kilo. This seems quite a bit for picking them yourself but it is a great family outing. The fields are not far away and many people stop off on their bikes as part of a biking tour.

Have you been strawberry picking this season?
