Hello hive friends! How are you? I've missed so many days, I'm happy that after all this time I'm finally back writing in this community again. This time I want to discuss the buildings in Kota Tua, Jakarta. Several months ago I visited the old city with my cousin. Before discussing the architecture, allow me to tell you a little about the history of this old city.
This area was previously called the city of Jayakarta, before it was finally attacked and colonized by Dutch traders, the VOC. After taking over the city of Jayakarta, the VOC then built a new city called Batavia. This city became the center of Dutch trade and military during their rule. Then the city of Batavia was changed to Jakarta after Japan took over this city.
As I mentioned above, the buildings in this old city were built by the Dutch during the colonial era. So, the architecture of the building is like buildings in the Netherlands. The building was built sturdy and majestic because it was once the center of government.
Well, let's discuss the buildings in this old city one by one.
Fatahillah Museum
The photo above is a photo of the main building or icon of the old city, namely the Fatahillah Museum, which at that time was used as the city hall and also the governor's office. Inside the building there is an underground prison.
Post office building
This post office building is also part of history because this was the first post office in Indonesia which was established during the colonial period. This building was first inaugurated by Governor General G. W. Baron Van Imhoff on August 20, 1746.
Wayang Museum
The building which is now a wayang museum, apparently used to be a church founded by the Dutch. The name of the church is Ode Holandsche kerk. This church was founded in 1640, then changed its name to de Nieuw Holandsche kerk in 1732 after repairs.
Batavia Cafe
This cafe, which is located opposite the Fatahillah Museum, has apparently been around since the Dutch colonial era. It is even said that this cafe was very popular at that time. I've been to this cafe and the architecture is really unique and aesthetic, of course with a Dutch feel. It's a shame that the account doesn't have photos of the inside of this cafe.
This Old City is now a tourist center for residents around Jakarta. Every holiday this place is filled with visitors who want to enjoy a holiday with their family and relatives. This place is often used as a place to take pre-wedding photos with an old building in the background. Apart from Dutch heritage buildings, there are several museums around this old city. The ones I mentioned above are only two of several museums located around the old city.
Almost all the architectural buildings in this old city are Dutch style. All buildings look sturdy with white paint. Even though they are hundreds of years old, the buildings in this city still stand strong and are beautiful to look at. I have visited this place several times and every time I come I am still amazed by the splendor of the old buildings.
Sorry if my story is inaccurate and does not match what is on Wikipedia, because I only wrote according to my knowledge.
If you want to know the complete history, I have also included a Wikipedia link here Source or read this article Source
Actually there are many other buildings, but unfortunately I only took a few pictures. Because it was very busy with visitors, I didn't feel free to take pictures and only took a few. So, there's only so much I can show and tell about Kota Tua. Even so, I'm happy that at least I can tell about the history of the Old City. Thank you for reading my writing. See you again hive friends!
