On my way to back to Mexico City I got to stop at a few random locations, where the muralist culture happened to be more present than in the mountain town of Crestline, California. One such place was San Diego, more precisely National City, where I got to visit a good friend. Not far from her place I found this impressive car mural. It's exact location is Highland Ave. and ... well, right around where E 26th St. is supposed to be.
As I was informed, the neighborhood is a big supporter of low-rider culture, and this wall painting is providing further proof of the residents' love for stylish cars. And it sure is an eye catcher. But wait... there is something else on this image, hidden in the glare of the evening sun.
It's the face of a lady! Could she be the owner of the car, maybe? One of the artists' friend or relatives? Perhaps someone deceased? Will we ever know? In either case, I feel that from this angle the car doesn't reach its full potential, so I decided to submit a cropped version of the first image for the CCC Street Art Contest, of which my mural series usually is part of. The artists behind this cool piece are Ground Floor Murals, San Diego, consisting of Signe Ditona and Paul Jimenez. Take a look at their website, as it offers their personal stories, how they got into painting murals, and even features an interactive map of all their works.
