Yesterday was Hive Power-Up Day, and I was excited to participate like every month. Although I only managed to power up 0.1k, I still have the dream of reaching 1k Hive Power each month. Starting my day early, as I usually do now, I went for a bike ride around Vohwinkel, covering almost 30 km.
Before heading out, I decided to skip checking the stairs that I had cleaned before. I hoped that there wouldn't be much debris left there in such a short time, especially considering the lack of litter I found the day before. As I cycled past the stairs without giving them much thought, I continued towards a social building complex and its surrounding bushes.
When I arrived at a clearing behind the bushes, I noticed something unexpected. A little bumblebee had landed on my head, as if it was a sign. After all, it was Hive Power-Up Day, even if it wasn't a bee.
Taking it as a positive omen, I began inspecting the clearing for trash. I found some scattered bottles but no significant debris. The silver lining was that all the bottles were redeemable here in Germany.
It seemed that people from the complex or perhaps visitors to the clearing had been throwing them into the bushes and nearby field. So, I collected all the bottles that I could see with my eyes and put them in a bag for later redemption. Due to the number of bottles, I decided to leave the bag behind and redeem them at a later time.
After completing my collection effort, I hopped back on my bike and continued to my second stop of the morning 🚲 - the highest point in the city.
To my surprise, there wasn't much debris there either, just the usual two or three cigarette butts. I gladly picked them up and disposed of them properly. Taking a short break at the highest point, I enjoyed the view and reflected on the significance of Hive Power-Up Day.
Feeling energized, I was ready to hit the trails. However, considering the lingering effects of my vaccine shot and not wanting to overexert myself, I decided to go for just one run. The air in the forest was still moist from the rain the night before, but the ground was already drying up. I was able to navigate the trail at full speed, reaching a top speed of 48 km/h during a thrilling downhill stretch. It was fast and exhausting, but exhilarating nonetheless.
After completing the trail run, I continued upstream of Wupper to check on a bench along the stream.
I planned to take a small break there and enjoy a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to physically power up. However, before I could do that, I had to clean the bench of any litter.
After all, who wants to sit in debris? As I cleaned, I listened to the soothing sound of water passing by and took a moment to reflect on the past month of June.
Once I finished my sandwich and cleaned the bench, I packed up three redeemable items that I had found and put them in my backpack. Just as I thought my morning couldn't get any more eventful, another surprise awaited me.
A little green bug landed on my hand. Gently luring it off, I continued my journey upstream.
The climb ahead was steep, but fueled by my sandwich, I managed to conquer it. From the top, I had a panoramic view of Vohwinkel, which made the effort worthwhile. I even got some kudos by car driver just passing by, he must have saw climb up the street.
After taking in the scenery, I rode back to retrieve the bag I had left behind earlier. My plan was to redeem all the eligible items at the supermarket.
As I reflect on yesterday's events, it becomes clear that even small actions can have a significant impact. Whether it's cleaning stairs, collecting redeemable bottles, or picking up litter, each task contributes to a cleaner and more sustainable environment. Hive Power-Up Day served as a reminder of the importance of being consistent in many regards of live. We all can make a positive impact in any way we can.
As I continue on my journey, I am filled with a sense of purpose and determination to do my part in keeping the world clean. Each day presents new opportunities to make a difference, whether it's through acts of kindness, appreciating nature's beauty, or simply cherishing the moments that bring us joy. By embracing these opportunities, we can become more compassionate and resilient individuals, ready to face the challenges that come our way.
