"An Ode to the Girl Who I Could Never Write": A Series of Experimental Photographs with a Girl and Some Flowers

Some people in life find love, while others do not. Some are born into wealth and others are not. It is just how life works. I was one of those who could not find love, but somehow I managed to pick a rose amongst all of my loneliness.

This is kind of the third post about this girl who I could never write. Now, I am trying to write her, to creatively create her through words and images.

This is an ode, with words and photographs, to the girl I could never write.

Please enjoy this poetic post about flowers, a girl, and my inability to use words to capture what she has come to mean.

An Ode to the Girl Who I Could Never Write

a rose that once was
now
no more
nothing but
a poetic device
to kindle romance

look away
as the leaves float
on the back of the wind

we killed her
with our love
a metaphorical sacrifice
to eros
to lost lovers

but there you were
a red rose
betwixt the ocean
of empty voices

fall to the earth
float to the sun
tell the stars
that their jealousy
cannot last

a broken rose
a broken heart
tears that provide
sustanence to the words
grow where you place your fingers
and write poetry
on my soul

pick me a flower
and write your name
on the petals
pick me a flower
and send me the summer sun

empty words
colorless roses
the sun shines cold
and the moon dances away
rainless clouds
and a moment in time
when everything slows down

Postscriptum

Sometimes life throws you a curveball, but then you just need to whack it. I hope you enjoyed the haphazard poetry and photography. Life is funny in South Africa. We have power cuts every few hours, we are about to go into water restrictions, and I am about the begin my academic journey. But oh life is worth every second. I hope you find your happiness.

All of the photographs are my own, taken with my Nikon D300 and Nikkor 50mm lens. The poetry is also my own, albeit inspired by rose fumes and a girl I could not write. Stay safe!
