In my previous articles I kept going on and on about Strečno, but the castle itself was nowhere to be found. So this time it will be for real.

Strečno is a massive, almost imposing castle built on a rock above the meanders of the river Váh. If you're heading east from Žilina, you can't miss it.

Ve svých předchozích článcích jsem se pořád točil kolem Strečna, ale samotný hrad nikde. Tak tentokrát už bude doopravdy.

Strečno je mohutný, až impozantní hrad vybudovaný na skále nad meandry řeky Váh. Jestli jedete ze Žiliny na východ, nemůžete ho minout.

However, we will not go around, but we will visit the castle. From the parking lot under the castle, there is a staircase several tens of meters long, then you will pass through a medieval village and finally find yourself in front of the castle gate.

Nicméně nebudeme obcházet kolem, ale hrad navštívíme. Od parkoviště pod hradem vede několik desítek metrů dlouhé schodiště, pak projdete středověkou vesničkou (Hobitín?) a konečně se ocitneme před hradní branou.

The high buildings and towers of the castle provide a distant view of the Váh Valley and the Kysuce Mountains on one side, and the hills of the Malá Fatra Mountains on the other.

Vysoké budovy a věže hradu umožňují daleký rozhled do údolí Váhu a na Kysuce na straně jedné, a na kopce pohoří Malá Fatra na straně druhé.

Inside the castle you can find the castle kitchen, the castle chapel, the castle tunnel that connects the first and second courtyards and the castle nobility - the paintings show the most famous owners of the castle, František Wesselényi and his wife Zsófia Bosnyák, who had a turbulent fate even 400 years after her death.
