I don't concern myself too much with accidental stuff because there is so much more blatant stuff that i actually have to deal with.
everyday lol
and its exhausting and the excuses are always the same. ALWAYS.
"i didn't know it was wrong to copy that."
"it's not like ALL my blog is plagiarized. i only do it once in a while"
"I've never been accused of this before. you should trust me."
its annoying and ridiculous and petty and childish and theft.
When I come upon an "accidental plagiarist" that copies my book, or the songs that I've written... lol then I guess that will be a first.
What I came across was my book - that is currently for sale, up on a website - in its entirety, without any permission or rights from me. Just stole it, published it, the end.
That is copyright infringement and people who try to protect those that steal and say "oh well it's not really because..." probably have never been in the same situation.
If I saw a book that was similar to mine? i'd probably just go - yep! similar idea.
As a matter of fact... about 3 years AFTER my book came out there was a SHOW that my mom saw that was almost identical to my book for about 2 seasons, and then it finally diverted.
Who can prove what came first? I'm not going after anyone in that case cuz you'll just never prove anything.
now - if they had teh same names as my characters? same setting, same exact storyline? and here they are making money off of my book? ok NOW you might have a case.
but - how much money do you have to pursue it? how much time? how much actual proof? all of these things... the thieves are betting that you don't have time, energy, or money to go up against them. and most of the time - people don't.
so they go free and unchallenged and the "little guys" get the raw deal.
meh. life.
but to each their own! hehehe
fun discussion with you here!
