The Afterlife (Chapter 4)

Hello! Personally, I feel like this chapter could've been better, but whatever. I hope you enjoy it anyway.

Morning.

I couldn’t sleep at all. Maybe the whole transition from dead to alive does that to you. I don’t know. I haven’t been in the Alive World since 1975.

The cars were too loud. The lights were too bright. I didn’t understand how people could sleep with all that.

Suddenly, I heard the door open. I peaked out from behind a box. Jordan. She was with two adults (her parents) and a little boy (little brother). That’s when people gathered.

The Paparazzi surrounded them, like bees to honey. “Mrs. Jordan, what can you tell us about your new movie,” an interviewer said. “Um, it’s a comedy,” Jordan said. Jordan held onto her brother’s arm, keeping him behind her. Her parents were talking with some guy.

“Mrs. Jordan, is it true you are dating Jeffery Kenna?” Jordan shook her head. “No way.” “Mrs. Jordan…” “Mrs. Jordan…” They wouldn’t stop. What could I do? I backed up into a box of bells. How convenient.

I grabbed a few of them and threw them across the street to get their attention. “Oh my gosh, is that-” I tried to think of an actor. “Andy Wallows?!” The Paparazzi heard me. They all looked at each other and ran across the street. They were lucky the light was red.

I looked at the Pensie family. The adults were still talking to some guy, but the kids relaxed a lot more. Jordan looked around and I swear she saw me. I quickly hid behind the wall.

The family went into their car. I guess I would have to wait a while. Great.

Finally, the family was home. This time another kid was with them, but he wasn’t part of their family, I could tell. The kid was a boy and Jordan’s little brother’s age. I guessed they were friends.

The family went inside. I waited a minute, and then I tried to figure out how to get inside. I saw there was a fire escape on the side of their building. I began to climb the steps.

I made it to Jordan’s bedroom window. I went inside. Her door began to open and I hid behind a desk. Jordan came in and sat on her bed. She held her head. I silently got out of my hiding spot. “Um, excuse me,” I said. Jordan turned around so fast I was surprised she didn’t get whiplash.

She got up. “Who are you? You know what, doesn’t matter. Get out.” I shook my head. “You don’t understand,” I said.

“What are you, paparazzi? Get out of my room,” Jordan exclaimed. I put my hands up. “I’m not paparazzi. I’m here to help you.” She rolled her eyes. “And how’s that?” “Because someone is trying to kill you!”

She paused. “Not possible.”

I shook my head. “I swear. Jordan, a man is going to try and kill you.” She sat down and shook her head. She looked up at me and realized something.

“You’re the boy. The boy in my dream.” I nodded slowly. “How did you do it? Get in my dream I mean.”

“Look, the truth is I’m not alive. I live in the Afterlife, where you go when you die. My job is to go into people’s dreams and change them if needed. I couldn’t change that guy’s dream. He wants you dead.”

Jordan laughed. Then she realized I was being serious. She sighed. “You know what, I believe you. It sounds stupid, but I believe you.” She took a deep breath. “So I’m going to die?”

I shook my head. “No, I’m not letting that happen. I’m here to make sure of that.” She nodded and smiled slightly. “I know I’ve asked you this before, but what’s your name,” she asked.

“Alex,” I said. “Alex Quek.”

Truthfully, I had no idea how to end this chapter. At least Jordan and Alex now have met each other. Have a good day!
