Another day, another fifty cents

I have been struggling to stay motivated. This happens every year about this time. The holidays are over, so the house looks a little drab and dark. My brain immediately starts looking for signs of spring, and every year I have to have the conversation with myself about it still being January. Winter is really just getting going. We have had some weather in the 20's but no snow so far. I used to really love it when it snowed, but now it makes me anxious, because I don't have the option of just huddling around the wood stove all day. I have to drive to wherever the goats are parked and feed them and break the ice off their water bucket. All wheel drive can only do so much.

This picture is from last winter, when we did get snow. The goats are not big fans of any kind of precipitation, but they find snow especially perplexing. My goats at home have a nice roomy barn and they will line up at the door and glare at the weather when it's not to their liking. The brush goats have no choice but to suck it up and go outside once in a while.

At least the snowdrops have started poking their heads out of the ground. And the hellebores are up and running. That's why I planted them in the first place; to give me a reason to get out of bed between January and April.

You can watch me feed and milk the goats every morning at 8:00 ish PST. I say ish because some mornings it's so dark at 8:00 that the goats don't start nagging until later than usual.

Stay warm everybody!
