Baby Chicks!!

The baby chicks are getting a little meaty. They are looking good and I had to split them into two 55 gal tanks now since they are growing fast. Since they are in a controlled temp environment they are off the heat lights already.

I am using three 55 gal tanks right now for brooders instead of my larger commercial brooder just because they are easier to handle indoors. I have wood shelves that I built for these back when I used them to breed leopard geckoes so they don't take up as much floor space. Since then they have been used for composting worms and so many other things. I love getting my hands on free aquariums.

Probably this time next week these guys will be getting moved outside into rabbit cages I am installing perches in for chicken cages and then from there they will go out into smaller fenced padlocks. These actually won't be around long enough to make it out to the padlocks since they are being raised for meat and will be butchered between 8 and 10 weeks old. After these are moved out next week I want to add a round of new layers and then ducks, geese and turkeys. By time I get those rotated out I will start hatching from our layers and keep these tanks along with my commercial brooder in rotation year around. I am hoping after my hog fencing is done and my sections of raised beds for next season is done I want to look at putting up a hoop house for brooding and raising chickens year around.
