I Love Nature Photo Challenge (Water) - Day Trip to North Berwick 🌊

North Berwick offered the perfect antidote to overwhelming crowds. With an abundance of beaches and lots of seaside charm, it is the perfect place to spend a day in the Scottish sun (it sometimes happens).

I asked Victoria if she wanted to take a day trip, but she wasn’t sure where North Berwick was. Not to be confused with Berwick Upon Tweed in Northern England, North Berwick is a pleasant train journey about 30 minutes east of Edinburgh.

When we arrived, it was 26 degrees Celsius, so we made our way to a seesaw of colourful boats at the harbour. Lucky for us it was a weekday and the beaches were not crammed full with families. Being a seaside town, North Berwick is home to traditional fish and chip shops, lobster shacks, ice cream parlours and quirky tearooms.

The residents are extremely lucky with views like this.

There’s plenty to do with boat trips, golf courses and tennis courts. Infact, this part of Scotland is commonly referred to as ‘golf country’. Though, my favourite thing to do in North Berwick is visit the Scottish Seabird Centre in search of puffins!

After a few hours at the beach, we decided to wander along nearby trails to avoid too much exposure to the sun. However, as we don’t get much summer sun in Scotland we were exhausted and soon returned back to Edinburgh. These trails can also be followed to visit the ruins of Tantallon Castle and North Berwick law; a conical hill which offers panoramic views of the east coast.

There are many places in Scotland that draw me in, but this charming haven is very high up the list because of its proximity to my hometown.
