In defense of freedom of speech

I'm not so fond of hate speech (and the like). There was this guy who thought putting a video on youtube where he kept telling his dog to 'gas the jews' was funny. Something I don't think will ever approach being funny, personally. He wanted controversy obviously then cried when he got fined by the courts. WW2 (at least elements of it) will never be a laughing matter in my eyes .

Yeah, that video was not funny, it was hilarious! Wow, so if you don't think it's funny then it should be a crime? It was funny, he should have every right to make that video and shame on you for supporting the sanctions against him. His video didn't hurt anyone.
One problem is that "hate speech" is whatever you don't feel is funny at the time. The other problem is what we see in your country with deeming political speech to be hate speech, we see that in Canada too, a city just banned the Anarchy symbol, declaring it a hate speech.
So when they want to implement Sharia law it will be hate speech to speak against it won't it? I hope all your womenfolk submit.

Shame your NFL players weren't encouraged to be free to kneel, eh?

They were 100% free to kneel, none of them faced any government sanctions, unlike the hilarious guy whose joke you didn't appreciate.

And by the ultimate twitter-idiot of them all who happily blabs away free and easy on just about anything half the time on his favourite medium of choice of late. But then your country elected him (well, that's the official version of how he got into power for now).

Yeah, how terrible, letting people speak freely means anyone can be elected president and does not have to fear being sanctioned for speech that those in power disagree with.

Maybe there's hypocrisy on both sides of the pond, then, eh?

Nope, nothing happened to the NFL players from the government, Trump having free speech is good. Everyone having free speech is good, free speech is good, not having it is bad.

It's just I find yours harder to swallow when the most morally & ethically bankrupt person I can think of dictates the way he thinks others should behave so vociferously. Excuse the pun. And all his fans continue to excuse his every indiscretion. So it appears.

He does not dictate anything, unlike whoever declared that hilarious little pug dog to be a hate speech criminal who dictated what is funny and what is not, trump makes twitter comments like everyone else.
I hope you never find yourself opposed to those in office and wanting to say anything about it, you might get locked up.

This is part of an exchange I have been having with a fellow who thinks we need to amend the constitution and confiscate everyone's guns so we can be safe.

After you click the resteem and vote buttons and make a comment check out the other parts:

Would we be safer without guns?

Would we be safer without guns? Part II

Don't forget to vote and resteem, I need a new boat!
