This will be difficult to write without stepping on some toes, as I've seen some heated debates online on the subject of identity politics, virtue-signalling and social justice warriors occupying an ever larger space in the public sphere.

You've seen me write about this problem on occasion too, as it's clear to me that our cultural heritage is bought and payed for by several boards of shareholders who care for nothing else but their quarterly returns. Iconic pop-culture favorites like Star Trek, Star Wars, Ghost Busters and Doctor Who have been offered on the altar of corporate profits, and are being used as a vehicle to sell ideological and political propaganda, in a bid by the plutocracy (the patriarchy incarnate) to sell to the public the idea that they really do care about diversity, glass ceilings and minorities.
Besides the lackluster characters, storytelling and even the disregard for internal consistency within the respective franchises, that are a direct result of prioritizing political messaging above good storytelling, there's the other side of this medal; the sometimes extreme overreaction by some males, mainly white. Look, I'm a white male too, and I also see the problem with this kind of virtue-signalling, and it makes me mad when I see my favorite heroes infected with it, their character arc of 50 years destroyed, just to let the light of new female stars shine brighter, but please stop acting like we're suddenly victims now, that white males are being discriminated against, that this diminishes our chances to score a good job, because when given the choice potential employers will choose a female or some minority over us, just to meet some predefined quota.
What really stuns me, is that both sides in this argument don't see they both are doing exactly what's expected of them; it's the oldest trick in the rulers' books, but it seems the general populace still hasn't grasped the true meaning of the phrase "divide and rule" or "divide and conquer". Stay on focus and stop arguing with each other; feminists are not your enemy, they are your allies. The average feminist is nothing like the screaming crazy examples being put forward in youtube videos, but just someone who recognizes the reality of the patriarchy. Or would you really try to dispute that leadership roles are, and have been for ages, generally occupied by males much more than by females, and that we therefore have had a lot of influence and power in shaping the world into what it is now? Good luck with that one.
The political agenda being pushed forward now in popular media is being pushed by that very same patriarchy, so it's not logical to suppose they do this to really fight said patriarchy, to fight against themselves. It is however logical to suppose they do it in order to guard the status quo they've been benefiting from all their lifes, and to set common people up against each other, to divide and rule, while simultaneously feeding them the "bread and games" to further distract them from their real opponent. We, the people, are their only adversary, and we should be their only fear, but that's not happening as long as we keep falling for this kind of divisive propaganda. So, stick to complaining about the murder of our common cultural heritage, the creation of Mary Sues instead of actual characters with actual arcs and actual growth, because "The Man" doesn't want women to have any flaws in fiction.
