Sauron's all seeing eye is real. Going through our rushed daily lifes it's quite easy to lose sight of the encroaching surveillance state. The surveillance state has been building for much longer than a lot of people realize, and too many of us are still oblivious as to the real reasons why it's so important to resist it.

I'll leave it to James Corbett to inform you about the history a little bit; in the video at the end of this post he shows a "lovely" article from the 1930s in which J. Edgar Hoover informs the public about the many advantages of registering our fingerprints with the authorities. Even then the same excuses were used: what if a loved one died on vacation and there's no other way to identify them? How would the family ever know? When would they ever stop worrying over that uncertainty? Nowadays chip-implants are being advertised as the next step in the same category: you'll never get lost again, and why not implant your kids, so you'll always be able to find them using GPS? And let's not even start about the convenience of opening doors or paying bills with a wave of the hand...
I had a lot of doubts and didn't want to register my fingerprint, but if I wanted a drivers license or passport... I had no choice in the end and that bothers me, should bother everyone. But there's no real resistance against this development; most people I meet in day to day life are still of the opinion that they "have nothing to hide" and "why worry if you haven't done anything wrong?" That may be even more infuriating to me than the further establishment of the panopticon itself. I've written about this in the past, but let me quickly recap what a "panopticon" is.
The panopticon is the smartest prison design ever, and we've all seen it in some movie or documentary; it's the round building with a circular open space around which the prisons are built several stories high. Right in the center there's a watch tower for the prison guards with at it's top a round room with windows looking out in all directions. The windows are either very small or are of one way glass, so that it's impossible to look inside from the outside; this is essential, so that the prisoners are never sure if there's even someone watching them. Human psychology dictates that the prisoners will now always behave as if there's an armed guard watching them... This is wonderful because now we need just a couple pf guards and the prisoners will always be on their "best" behavior.
That's the key; the mere possibility of having a never sleeping I looking at you changes behavior. The funny thing is that in real direct contact, being watched or stared at is generally being frowned upon; no one likes someone looking over their shoulder while working or eating, and we all know the feeling of "eyes in our back." Yet, when it comes to the state and the plutocracy spying on and storing our every move, they just shrug it off. Like Corbett says: it started with fingerprints, now they even own "the code of life," our DNA. Modern techniques are a real blessing and the good uses are just that: good. The technology and science are not the problem here; the current power structure is. We're being treated as criminals, and let's face it: EVERYONE has something to hide...
