Quick reality check: in the conflict between America and Iran, America is the aggressor, Iran the victim. Let's all be clear about the facts that won't be discussed in the mainstream media; Trump wants this conflict escalated. This is not a mistake, miscalculation or for the protection of the American people. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were no mistakes, not a waste of trillions of dollars, not for the instigators of these wars; for them they're a marvelous source of income.

It's all over the news and all over the internet, so you probably know by now that Trump ordered the assassination of Iran general Qassem Suleimani by drone-strike. The neocons who started the illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the shadow government behind Bush consisting of hawkish warmongers like Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Kristol and Perle, have had Iran on their war-wish-list for years, and it seems they finally found a commander in chief who's stupid enough to grant them their ill-begotten wish. Trump said in reaction that this assassination was ordered for the protection of Americans. It's quite unbelievable, but I bet that there's actually still people around who believe him, even people who cheer him on; I used to pity those people, I still do, for this can only come from ignorance induced by loads of misinformation, but we're coming to a point that this ignorance is becoming dangerous. You need to wake up, really, it's almost a last chance to be on the right side of history.
I won't go on to describe the obvious danger here; starting yet another full-blown war in the Middle East that will cost innumerous innocent deaths on all sides of the conflict. You can watch the videos (please do) in this post; the first one is not directly related but shows a lot about the mindset behind all this warmongering. I just want to concentrate on the big lie behind all this, the lie by omission. Like I said in the opening paragraph, Iran is the victim here by any measure. Let's not forget history and remember that this conflict goes back to 1953 at the very least, and actually goes all the way back to right before the Great War, when the Middle East's oil-rich region was already divvied up between the great western powers of the time, mainly the United Kingdom and France, culminating in the Sykes–Picot Agreement. In this secret agreement the Middle East was simply cut up in pieces (just look at a map and see all the straight borders between those nations; literally lines drawn on a map instead of "natural" borders), like spoiled kids sharing their marbles saying "one for you, one for me, one for you..."

That's imperialism defined, right there. If that's not enough to convince you, in 1953 the United Kingdom and America got rid of Iran's democratically elected president Mohammad Mosaddegh and gave Iran the Ayatollah; if that's not imperialism I don't know what is. It's certainly not spreading freedom and democracy, the excuse still used for the other illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In the late 1970s and 1980s America once again was involved in imperialistic warmongering using Iran as one of its pieces on the chessboard in the Iran–Contra affair. I hope, dear reader, that if you've made it this far, it's becoming increasingly clear that Iran can not be seen as agressors in the current conflict, not by any stretch of the imagination.
Oil wasn't as important before the first world war, as every motor was still driven by coals. But the United Kingdom had the world's biggest fleet back then, needed to patrol their world empire, so they needed the oil badly when everything transitioned from coal to oil. You can look up the complete history of the region yourself but for now it's enough to understand that all countries in that region have been the theater of war over vital resources for over a century now. For more than 100 years we, the West, have controlled the region by installing puppet dictatorial regimes and removing all leaders who dared use their resources how they saw fit. Saddam Hussein was an evil dictator, for sure, but he was OUR evil dictator, especially when he helped us fight the war against Iran. As soon as he threatened to trade Iranian oil through European banks, using Euro's instead of Dollars, he became part of Bush's infamous Axis of Evil, comprising Iran, Iraq, and North Korea.
Iran Expert Trita Parsi: We may already be at war with Iran
In defense of Trump it has to be said that he's the first American president in modern history who occasionally openly admits that the wars are about the resources, the oil, gas and minerals. On the other hand there's no way to know if this is honesty or sheer foolishness; personally I think it's the latter. I mean, in 2011 or 2012 he tweeted repeatedly that he suspected that Obama would start a war with Iran in order to be re-elected. Trump even said that it was because of Obama's lack in negotiation-skills; just watch the below linked video for a vivid reminder of that. Now, at the very start of 2020 he's doing exactly what he thought Obama would do, start a war with Iran in order to increase his chances for re-election; history clearly shows that "war presidents" usually get high approval ratings. This is conjecture on my part, no way to prove it, so take that as you will. There's no arguing facts though, and the facts are that Trump's administration has done everything possible to get that war, starting with throwing away the nuclear non-proliferation deal that Obama reached with Iran, and which Iran has honored even after the U.S. broke that deal. Add this latest and shocking assassination, and we should expect nothing less than a further escalation in the quagmire that we created over there. I know for a fact that if I was a native of Iraq of Iran, I would be standing with the protesters that demand that American soldiers leave their country, and that they leave yesterday.
The future of the world is balancing on a knife's edge, and the knife is held by an unstable spoiled brat who wouldn't recognize a fatal mistake if it bit him in the ass. If you're one of those deeply misguided souls who still support this administrative mental asylum and is cheering on the clown at its head, I can only be sorry for you and for the world you help create. Trump has committed a terrorist act, a brutal public assassination, and he should expect nothing less in return. Please spare us the reactions that try an excuse this behavior by explaining how bad and inhumane the Iranian general was; he's the product of more than a century of brutal oppression by western forces, we created him like we created Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and all the other evil dictators that suppress their own people for us to get cheap resources; you reap what you sow.
