Since moving to the farm we have acquired a few new faces. I feel the need to introduce y'all to everyone, since I'll be telling you about our adventures from here on out. As some already know my mom is @xcountytravelers. She has encouraged me to get to know everyone and let y'all get to know us!
The Grown-ups (Me, Andie, and my counterpart, Chris)
Now as parents, we do have to behave like grown-ups for the most part, however we don't always. Often you can find us shooting nerfs at each other, smashing food into each others faces, or trying to scare each other around any corner.
The Kids (We'll call them Farm Girl and Farm Boy)
Farm Girl and Farm Boy were very content in their city life. When we moved they were very upset. However, it has been several months now, and they are happier than they ever were in town. We limit tv, sweets, and junk food. They have become best friends and can be found running the property, bugging me for food, or taking care of the animals.
The Dogs (Laney and Mav)
We've had these two for years. Mav was our child before children. He came to us at 16 weeks and will be 11 years old in March. He is a mini Aussie and is the best dog ever! (Sorry Laney) Laney was our rescue pup. She was one of 6 babies that were found behind a store in a box, not even a week old. We got her at 6 weeks old, and she was a chewer. Since she has become the mommy dog. When Mav tries to attack the vacuum (to protect us of course) Laney steps in and tells him no!
The Dove (Twitch)
We had Twitch prior to moving to the farm. He was found by the curb as a baby, didn't even have feathers yet, with an injured leg. I brought him in, and after his leg healed I tried to put him back into the nest. However his parents no longer wanted him. So we got him a home and he spends the day flying in the house, following us outside, and getting in tiffs with the cat....
The Cat (Jade)
When we moved to the farm, mice was a problem.... inside the house... yuck! So when I went to the shelter they had this little guy who immediately snuggled into my arms. He has since rid the house of mice! Such a good kitty. He loves going outside, and that is where he spends most of the day. He does come in at night and cuddles us happily.
The Favorite (Sweetie)
I know, you shouldn't have favorites, but I do! Can't help it. Sweetie is our little miracle. She was sick as a chick with two others. Sadly they died, but Sweetie lived. She spent a while living inside with us, so we became pretty attached. She is an Ameracauna and is about 4 months old now. She insists on standing on our shoulders and being hand fed every morning.
The Babies
These are our younger chickens. We got them as chicks and are assorted varieties. They are fun to watch especially the little roosters (roos as we call them).
The Mommas
We purchased these already laying hens from a commercial egg farm. They were going to be butchered and turned into dog food otherwise. But we got them and they lay wonderfully for us. They can be seen following me around the farm begging for scraps and treats.
The Geese (Hula and Hooper)
The newest additions to our cast. These two males were brought in to keep hawks away from the chickens. So far, so good. They are noisy! Sweet though and very soft. They love their kiddie pool and are deathly afraid of Farm Girl with a unicorn hoodie on.
So that is everyone so far (hoping to add a piglet soon!) and we love this farm life. Thank you for letting me share with y'all! And I can't wait to meet you.
