Why Being Patient Is Not Always The Best Thing To Do

You may never know what results come of your actions, but if you do nothing, there will be no results.

Growing up, we were all taught by our parents and teachers that patience is a virtue and we must always be patient for things to happen in our lives. What we weren't taught, surprisingly, is how taking action is just as important as patience itself.

Time waits for no one and given the fact that we only have a limited time in this world, 'doing' seems much better than 'waiting'. Don't get me wrong, I do believe in patience but sometimes it's not what is needed.

Instead, what is needed is the ability to take actions and making things happen for yourself instead of just waiting for them to happen all by themselves. There are already zillions of articles on the internet on how to be patient, but not many on how patience can sometimes hold you back from taking initiatives.

Patience Doesn't Initiate Actions

One quality that all successful people and leaders have in common, is that they are quick to initiate their actions. They don't waste their time hoping for something to happen by itself, no, they do things by themselves, for themselves and others.

This is the reason why they are so energetic and almost always ready to make big decisions. They know that though some things might take their time, it's on them to make the most out of theirs at being productive.

Those Who Wait, Don't Create

Impatience is usually seen as a sign of poor personality and is compared to a child's tantrum, and even though it can be true at times depending upon the kind of person you're dealing with, it's not always the case for everyone.

Creating something new and unique requires excitement, commitment, determination, and intense willpower which patience is not able to offer, which brings us to our next point.

Change Comes With Will, Not Time

I was waiting for something extraordinary to happen but as the years wasted on, nothing ever did unless I caused it.

- Charles Bukowski

Imagine what would happen if no one showed up at work expecting that things will work themselves out. That's right, there will be no change because no work will be done and the stocks will go down almost instantly. For something to progress, it requires constant effort and the willingness to bring improvement.

That's why when it comes to bringing change, patience might not be the best option. Most of the biggest changes in history came from times when people could no longer live in the same environment that they were in, and chose to work for what they believe in rather than waiting for things to work themselves out.

Timing Doesn't Favor Everyone

Oftentimes, we postpone our actions because we try to find the right time to execute them. We wait till we feel like the time is suitable only to realize that the right time never did come and all the waiting was pretty much useless and we could have started a lot earlier.

For some lucky people time might not be a problem, but for the rest of us, it is a big deal and it's not advisable to depend on the right time if you are looking forward to making big decisions in your life.

Don't look for the right time, look for the right decision.
