Vroom, Vroom - Weekend Fun

IMG-1734.JPG

This is one of my favorite cars from today's auto show. I went with my mother and one of my sisters as accidental tourists. Really we were looking for a popup lobster-n-chips shop that was announced to be at that location a couple more weeks, only to find it is closed on weekends.

The autoshow was a happy find, as were numerous food trucks.

This is another one of my favorites. It would be so fun to ride around in this old beauty.

Or how about this for even more red in your nights on the town.

Here's another shot of the same car from the front. Note the champagne on ice to the right.

Here's the one I call the BatMobile.

This one is straight out of the crypt. Alluding to the Grateful Dead, perhaps?

Juneteenth

I was supposed to be meeting up with a new friend at a celebration for Juneteenth near the same place we were going to get the lobster. My mother wasn't keen on walking but my sister and I were convinced it was so close we'd walk the same distance from a new parking place. So we decided to walk up to where we thought it was, then call her to let her know if it was too far and we were coming back, or not far at all and she should come join us.

Well it was too far, and also I couldn't find my friend there. She was going to be leading a discussion on the topic of true freedom and liberation post-slavery within the African-American community for a magazine she just started working for. I suspect the community conversation was to lead to an article. Perhaps she found it too noisy there for any such discussions and left before we got there. It was definitely quite loud, with the musicians playing and also some speakers.

I wound up getting a funnel cake with ice cream, strawberries and whipped cream I really shouldn't have had given my dairy allergy, and also... surprise, surprise... found our missing lobster-n-fish guys!

Turns out they are in their food truck on weekends and only at the pop-up location during the work week to serve the downtown office crowd. I had a good conversation with one of the guys though and learned much more about how one can ultimately create a successful restaurant without the risk of just opening up a restaurant. Think "food truck" to "pop up restaurant" to "own restaurant" to perhaps "multiple locations of own restaurant." It turns out, one of the restaurants near where we sat in the car show took just such a journey to success.

It was a place called Only Burger, and I hear it is incredibly successful. They also carry the Impossible Burger non-meat hamburger that I so badly want to try. I actually had a Beyond Burger I bought at Whole Foods for dinner tonight. It was the best veggie burger I've ever had, but not really a great burger per se. I've still got a pattie left, that I think I'll try making into a meat sauce to go over pasta.

I'm still excited about the possibility of finding a non-meat burger I really love. The world needs to move forward in that way. I'm going to check out the Only Burger closer to me sometime this week and do a little taste comparison.

Cool Gadgets

I've recently been experimenting with some new PEMF devices that use electromagnetic pulses to stimulate cellular respiration and increased blood circulation to promote overall health. On me I haven't noticed the strongest results, but my sister had an aching elbow that was starting to even form a bruise after almost a week of getting worse. 20 minutes with one of my devices nipped the bruise in the bud and eliminated the pain within just the first few minutes.

She said the pain returned the next day, but much, much less intense, so I brought my device over and after we got back from running around town in search of lobster and community conversations (neither of which we found) I let her use it again. She said it worked again and we resolved she might need to keep using it until the pain is completely gone. Glad to see it at least reducing between sessions with the device.

I've also treated a pitcher of water, which again, my sister said she could feel was detoxing her from drinking it, and my dog also can't seem to get enough of. Me? Meh.

Anyway, glad I have these to play with. Will let you know if I personally experience anything significant with them.

Have a great rest of your weekend. I hope you do something fun and that friends and family are somehow involved... unless you don't want them to be.
