This is one of the most emblematic fairs of Alentejo!
Ovibeja is known as an agriculture fair, were it's possible to find the rural culture and gastronomy, to taste regional olive oils, wines, and cheese, watch various exhibitions, contests, conferences, shows...and have a nice meal!
It's great to visit with family or with a group of friends! I've been visiting this fair in the last few years, and it wasn't on my plans to go again this year. But due to the weather conditions, the plans changed and...
This Sunday I went to the Alentejo fair!!
As you can easily imagine, there won't be a SundayCook this week because I didn't cook. Why should I!? With such an amazing offer in the fair... ;)
Instead I'll share some photos that resume what one can see.
The farmers took the bulls winners for a walk in the main avenue of the fair
The bull above has more than one ton of weight!! (WOW)
This is a traditional costume that farmers used to wear
Nowadays it's only used in traditional shows (Cante Alentejano).
We went to the horse obstacle contest
This was one of the winners!
After we watched a sheep shearing exhibition
I got so impressed (it was my first time). Must love these lovely creatures.
We still had time to watch the "Rafeiro Alentejano" (mastiff breed from Alentejo region) contest
We didn't wait to watch the winners, it was time to store the camera in a safe place and meet our friends!!
The fair also has a party included!
It's possible to assist to concerts and dance. There are DJ's, in tents or small bars, that plays until late in the night (or early in the morning, depending on what you are focusing) ;)
But as in every party there is also food and drink!!
We choose some "tapas" to share, served with regional red wine!
This is a "cold tapa", actually, it was our last one, it has ham, two different types of cheese and amazing olives!! (Wish I had remembered to take pictures of our first "tapa"...humm!)
Cheers!!
(Sorry about the quality of these last three photos, it were taken with my smartphone)
