Welcome to #monochromemonday initiated by @old-guy-photos I've been thinking about what looks good in black and white and tried a out a few ideas to see what the effect would be. Portraits always seem to look much better in monochrome.
The portrait below was taken by my eldest son. He is a professional photography and shot a series of portraits of me a while back.

Landscapes can look pretty good. Dramatic clouds can give an extra punch. I'm submitting it to the #landscapephotography category initiated by @juliank

This photo below is of the river Ouse in Cambridgeshire. This image in black and white doesn't work for me. It's all subjective in the end.

Old cottages like this one below when photographed in black and white give a sense of timelessness. The photo could have been taken anytime in the last 100 years...apart from the car in the distance.

And finally a Prius gen 1. My faithful old jalopy. It is ancient but looks almost brand new in monochrome. Shiny :)

My conclusion is that some things work well in monochrome while other not so much. Portraits, buildings and landscapes can look better in black and white. What do you think?
