Celebrating NZ music throughout May: 23 & 24 – The Rumour / John Rowles

What with one thing and another, I didn’t manage to post yesterday. So today will have to do for two days. And it’s not far off bedtime, so I’d better get a wriggle on.

Oddly it was something we’ve already had, so moving right along… Into our time machine and back into the annals of time, to the late 1960s and early 1970s. I happened across them the other day, after not thinking about them for years, probably decades. Without further ado, I give you…

The Rumour

They put out four albums between 1971 and 1973, and 12 singles between 1970 and 1983. Their most well known song was probably "L'amour Est L'enfant de la Liberte (Love is the Child of Freedom)" from 1971:

I also remember this one, “Holy Morning” from 1972:

It won’t surprise you that I’ve put together a routine for my arthritis class with all kiwi songs, which I’ll be doing with them tomorrow. I was refreshing my memory of some of them today, and wanted to share with you someone who features twice in the routine.

John Rowles

The two songs from John that are featured are “Hush Not Word To Mary” from 1968

And “Cheryl Moana Marie” from 1971, written about his younger sister.

But I also like “If I only Had Time”, also from 1968, and his first well known song.

Thanks for listening
