"In 1963 teenage twin brothers Gerard and John aka Shade Smith formed the high school band The Sapphires with fellow Huntly College fourth formers Ross Hindman and Sjaaki Koolen. They made their first public appearance at a local talent quest in the same year where they won first prize." source
I couldn't find any video clips of their songs, but I wanted to add them here because ... well, they would have gone to school with my mother and/or uncles and/or my dad! You've gotta take your connection to fame any way you can. ;)
After they'd broken up, they eventually reformed as The Rumour.
