Some Bowie in Berlin

This week I'm in Berlin with my better half and some friends. I was here with the family a couple of years ago, but this time it's for a special reason. Since #DavidBowie died members of his band have put on concerts to perform his music. We have attended these at Brixton Academy in 2017 and Shepherd's Bush Empire last year. This time we came to Berlin, which played an important part in his life.

This afternoon we made a pilgrimage to Hansa Studios where he recorded some classic albums.

A bonus on the tour was having Eduard Meyer who was engineer and musician for Bowie as well as Iggy Pop and many others. So we got great insight into what went on. We saw the big hall they used and the former control room.

This evening we went to Huxley's Neue Welt, which is a nice sized venue. Not too big. We were positioned just to the side of the stage. My wife is not very tall, but she had a great view.

Pianist Mike Garson runs these tours and we also had guitarist Earl Slick and a couple of other guys who played with Bowie. The singers were Bernard Fowler (Rolling Stones backing singer), Joe Sumner (Sting's son) and Corey Glover (Living Colour). They are all good, but Corey is just amazing. I don't know how he can hit those high notes.

They did a great selection of Bowie's music, including some more obscure songs. We had a good singalong and danced.

The 2 hour set flew by, but we came away very happy.

We're here for a few more days. It's very cold, but there's lots to see.
