I love doing these musical explorations for you. Today, I've found a song that I had heard, but never really listened to, and definitely hadn't watched the video before. So, that's where we'll start.
Somebody That I Used to Know - Gotye
I love the artistic way this video was made. It really seems to put more to the whole message of the song.
So, my favorite covers for this song... I had some difficulty on this, but finally chose two a cappella versions.
Somebody That I Used to Know - presented by Matthias Harris
I like how creative he is with all his different sounds that really go together very well.
The best one I found though was:
Somebody That I Used to Know - presented by Peter and Evynne Hollens
Their vocals are awesome, as always. They also give several good nods to the original video while keeping it truly their own version.
On to parodies
I look for a good video - ideally someone who is mimicking the original in a unique fashion. I also look for good vocals. After all, this is music first and foremost.
Today, I chose a Star Wars one that is an excellent mimic, yet very creative too.
The Star Wars That I Used to Know - presented by teddiefilms.
My only beef with this one is that I guess they didn't know about Darth Jar Jar... maybe the most powerful Sith ever!
I love that they brought in a George Lucas lookalike, and I'm sure that good old George has seen it himself and laughed the whole way through his part!
(I handled the prequel trilogy well. The newer stuff with JJ Abrahms at the helm, not so much.)
I've found you another Game of Thrones parody too - and if you've watched any of it, you will know the truth in this excellent parody!
A Character I Used to Know - presented by notliterally
Okay, almost no mimicking of the original video, but awesome, nonetheless!
My last selection of the day goes into the WTF category for the day - and is potentially offensive to some. I really think it is an awesome piece of work, singing the song for the average Brit - and I lived there for 16 years!
Brexit Parody - Somebody That I Used to Know - presented by Daniel Bostock
Hopefully no matter which side of the Channel you're on, you get the guy's point on why the subject has been so emotive in the UK!
