My husband was playing this the other day. It's such a pretty tune, but I realized today that I'd never really listened to the lyrics before - nor watched the video. Talk about heavy hitting!
In case you've never listened to this piece - it has nothing to do with "zombies" of fiction, but the real live zombies in our world.
So, here's the original
Zombie - by The Cranberries
The imagery is so strong and devastating. Down to the likening of the children to being the sacraficial lambs in a huge war.
Although this was written about the violence in Ireland, it can be used for many conflicts. It's always the children who are the true victims of war. Speaking of children - here's one of the nicer covers I found of this song - sung by a 12-year-old. She starts a little quiet, but quickly finds her form.
Zombie - presented by Jannine Weigel
Stunning vocals for her age. Being that was 5 years ago, I may have to see what she's up to these days. Hopefully, it's paying her way through college!
Zombie - presented by Gabriella
Another beautiful arrangement where she's made it her own, and presents it stunningly.
Here's another great cover.
Zombie - presented by Julia Westlin
This is an artist I could listen to all day. She sings very much in the style of Enya, but with a unique perfection all her own. Fantastic!
I had a lot of difficulty finding good parodies today. So many took the "zombie" and ran with it - even though that has nothing to do with the song! I rejected everything I found that did that. Had they changed the lyrics to fit properly, maybe... but they didn't.
Here's my favorite parody today:
Black and Red by Library Bards
The lyrics and video are a lot of fun. The vocals are good too. I enjoyed this one, and definitely plan to watch more of their videos in the future.
Today's WTF selection!
The Walking Dead Parody by Carrie Bowen & David Disharoon
Okay, I let one Zombie themed parody get through - because they did such a great job with it! They've only had 666 views (!) in four years as well, so let's support them a bit.
I like the use of the ukelele. I like the lyrics, and I'm definitely not a fan of the whole zombie craze under any name. It's a fun piece and I enjoyed it.
Bonus Selection - an amazing cover!
Zombie presented by Irina on X-Factor Ukraine
It is completely out of character for me to feature an X-Factor piece, but this is simply amazing!
I love how the audience gets involved, making it a truly magical moment.
Extra Bonus!
I don't generally do this, but @tryskele drew my attention to this very important addition to this post - the tribute that Bad Wolves did following the death of Dolores O'Riordan.
Zombie presented by Bad Wolves
That's it for today! I hope you had as much fun as I did!
As usual, I'm simply sharing YouTube videos on a theme, all rights remain with the original.
