If we stop freaking out about the "cancer" word and recognize that Every Single Person, at any given time, has cancerous cells which the immune system knows how to manage, then we are well on the way to being able to naturally manage, reverse and heal small damaged areas before they blow up, become systemic and become life threatening.
Skin cancer is common and, if left unchecked, can develop & kill people.
"Currently, between 2 and 3 million non-melanoma skin cancers and 132,000 melanoma skin cancers occur globally each year. One in every three cancers diagnosed is a skin cancer and, according to Skin Cancer Foundation Statistics, one in every five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime." Source.
Pausing for a moment to remember Renata - a childhood family friend who endured terrible, painful, disfiguring facial surgeries for melanoma and eventually passed from this life, after much suffering . She was loved and is missed.
I, myself, have had a melanoma surgically removed from my upper arm and had reconstructive plastic surgery over the site. It looks like a vaccination mark on my arm now, but the melanoma was deep and required tissue removal almost to the humerus bone; there remains a strange, vacant, spongy zone underneath the skin which has never become firm, and where the muscle has never regrown, despite years of gym and me having otherwise pretty solid biceps.
So what makes one person get through a local surgery and never have a recurrence while others are not so lucky?"
In my case, I have RELIGIOUSLY treated - for 20+ years now - both the surgery site and ANY little actinic keratosis which emerges anywhere on my body with a simple, natural remedy.
Made from eggplants.

What the heck is an actinic keratosis? It's a spot on the skin which shows cellular change - a precursor to skin cancer and an orange light, if you will. A warning sign that the immune system is overworked and requires assistance. They generally look like a small recurrent scab, like this:

or a nondescript, reddish spot like this:

Neither of my current spots is itchy, painful or anything other than a seemingly innocuous change in the skin. No, I don't go rushing off to the Dermatologist to hack or carve bits out, nor do I worry or agonize about whether to biopsy, or not. I simply go to my kitchen, whip up a batch of the simple egg plant remedy, and apply it 2-3 times per day for 2-3 weeks.
How can I be so cool and relaxed about it, having lost a friend to melanoma and having had a very worrying one surgically removed already? Simply because I have done my homework. And because I am 20+ years out from my melanoma surgery, I'm incredibly fair skinned living in a tropical country, I NEVER use suncreens and I have never had anything more other than these Actinic Keratoses, which clear up easily and quickly.
Eggplants - particularly the dark purple ones and the tiny little baby Thai eggplants you find in green curry - are incredibly high in a group of substances collectively called Solasodine glycoalkaloids. "The solasodine glycoalkaloids are a group of naturally occurring compounds found in plants of the nightshade family, such as aubergine. Their efficacy has been proven in the treatment of actinic keratoses and photodamaged skin." Source.
The Eggplant Cure, as it's now called, has been written up in numerous research publications and there is a HUGE body of clinical data. This article from the Longevity Medicine Review gives a great Summary.
Like all hugely effective natural treatments, people have tried to cash in on it Big Time. Yes - you can buy a tiny 20g tube of Curaderm online for ONLY USD $151 plus shipping, handling and import taxes. The active ingredient you get as a bonus on top of the preservatives, petrochemical based cream and the plastic residue which has leached in from the plastic tube? BEC5, which is the commercial name for the group of solasodine glycoalkaloids extracted from simple, everyday eggplants.
So how do I make my Eggplant Skin Treatment?
I start with organic eggplants. Washed and the stalks removed, in my heavy stone mortar an pestle. I prefer to use the tiny Thai green eggplants.

I pound them to crush and expose as much surface area as possible. My energetic self argues with my head a lot: my HEAD says toss them in the blender for optimal surface area, but my herbal-energetic self FEELS and KNOWS that it's better to not expose plant medicine to metal or plastic, if it can be avoided. So the stone mortar and pestle it is. GREAT THERAPY for the grumpies and day-to-day frustrations.

Then the pounded eggplants go into a glass jar and are covered with organic vinegar (with the 'mother' in, please!). Clinical trials actually show this treatment being just as effective using nasty white commercial vinegar, but since organic vinegars have - of themselves - been shown to be anti-cancer, it just makes sense to use the best. Please make sure the vinegar is organic. Today I used over-brewed, very vinegary kombucha - a batch I am "using up" after it went too fast in our incredibly hot kitchen.

Leave it to "brew" in your fridge for 3 full days, strain and then apply the liquid 2-3-4 times a day to any spots. Even though the "spot" may (and does) often visibly disappear within 5-7 days, I highly recommend persisting with the treatment for at least 7 days after it's "gone". The skin absorbs what we put on it, and the cellular aberrations exist below the visible dermis too. I often soak a little cotton pad with the liquid at night, and adhere with a bit of surgical tape.
There's much discussion online about the 3 types of skin cancers and whether this treatment is effective for all, or just some, of them. The censoring current media will not allow this to be discussed as a melanoma treatment, but there used to be a highly popular and effective melanoma cream sold in the US before Big Pharma jumped into bed with the information-controlling US government, and it was withdrawn from sale by the USFDA.
Actually, it matters not. The actinic keratoses are considered to be pre-cancerous by most dermatologists, and respond almost 100% to this simple eggplant treatment. Why wait to discover if your 'spot' might turn into a Basal Cell Carcenoma, a Squamous Cell Carcinoma or a Melanoma? Why spend USD $200 you can't afford? It MAKES SENSE to effectively and affordably treat any actinic keratoses at home, quickly and simply.
Enjoying the FREEDOM the internet gives us.
Celebrating the plants and remedies that enable me to remain well and happy.
Remembering Renata.
