Here's a pyjama top I made for my husband last year.
I used my overlocker ( serger ) to do all of the seams. It was the only way to deal with that knit fabric as I my normal sewing machine would not have been able to do the job.
Not all of the seams were perfect. For instance the bottom section doesn't quite line up :
I can live with that - it doesn't show and it doesn't make a difference. I just need to be more careful this time.
The collar is also not so straight.
I sewed that contrast neckline after all the seams were finished and it was quite hard. Again I just need to take my time a bit more and not rush things.
When I made that pyjama top I actually just copied this pyjama top below so I didn't actually follow a pattern. The process was simple but 'fiddly' because I felt nothing lined up:
It has seen better days and you can see my 'darnings'. The problem I had last year while trying to 'copy the silhouette' is that the seams are not straight. This is what I get when I try to straighten the top :
In order to make a new top this time I will just have to be very careful. I have already lined up the fabric and it's a complete 'upcycling' project. I will be using three t-shirts that we no longer wear to make the top :
These two t-shirts will be the sleeves :
This very grey t-shirt will be the body of the t-shirt.
Keep tuned to the next episode... Hopefully the main table will be a bit emptier then and I can cut all the sections.
This time I will definitely be making a paper pattern. Last year it was an experiment so I didn't keep the sections... Now I know it can work so I will be more organised 😆
