A 54-year-old man who works with the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services, Carlos Castillo, has recently been arrested over charges relating to possession of child pornography.
The DCFS worker has been a longtime employee with the organization, working in the adoption service division.
Unfortunately, this is just one more incident among several, where the public has found out that those who have taken-up positions that are supposedly looking out for the best interest of families and children, might instead themselves be predators who those children should be protected from.
The DCFS responded to the arrest saying that they recently learned about the allegations, which relate to disturbing activity which they claim goes directly against their mission.
It's reported that the former employee who has now been arrested, had been working with the county for several decades. It's alleged that the LAPD started an investigation on him after a tip was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Child protective service agencies cost taxpayers billions of dollars and millions of investigations take place every year. Quite often though, there are anonymous tips that are made quite frequently which are never substantiated, though CPS agencies are required to investigate the calls that they receive. A false accusation could end-up causing tremendous stress and trauma for a family.
Many parents that have fallen victim to these investigations have come forward with understandably harsh criticism for the organizations that unjustly separated their family. Some have claimed that they and their children are victims of a broken system. There are even some claims that CPS workers have fabricated evidence against parents. And not only have the families come forward, but former CPS workers themselves have also said that the dysfunctional department is hurting children and several have left their employment over those concerns.
