Here is a section of my drawing
Here is the full sized version with the 80's Pop
The Image in it's Pure Black and White form:
I had the inkling to do a black and white recently. Having been so busy trying to juggle everything from Family to preparing for Summer activity with my rentals as well as keeping up with my art, I just needed to get to my Zen place, which is often my black and white drawings.
We stumbled upon Vaprowave music sometime ago
having, through the rabbit hole that the internet can be, stumbled upon the sub-genre of music I was sort of captivated.
I won't try and butcher the definition of it so I'll give you the Wikipedia outline:
Vaporwave is a microgenre of electronic music and an Internet meme that emerged in the early 2010s.[18] The style is defined by its appropriation of 1980s and 1990s mood music styles such as smooth jazz, elevator music, R&B, and lounge music, typically sampling or manipulating tracks via chopped and screwed techniques and other effects. Its surrounding subculture is sometimes associated with an ambiguous or satirical take on consumer capitalism and pop culture, and tends to be characterized by a nostalgic or surrealist engagement with the popular entertainment, technology and advertising of previous decades
However you define Vaporwave it is in essence a Mood
You feel an odd pull of nostalgia (being from the 80's) mingled with the sort of dystopian realism we often face today.
The genre of music pulls old 80/90s music mingled with muzak and by slowing tempos it gives an odd surreal creepy quality. Here is one example I played whilst drawing this black and white.
Having watched this youtubers series "Dead Malls" sort of spurred me onto using this odd music and feeling for my drawing. He often uses this type of music. When it is intermingled into the visuals of dying malls (the cathedrals to our once optimistic Capitalism) it transports you.
You feel lulled and numb in a sort of transcendent moment of despair and Freedom of lost Hope.
I'll share one of his videos here, and you should check out his entire series on the dead mall.
I felt compelled to add spray of 80's colour and geometry to my drawing
The crisp lines and curves of the black on the page were just calling out for the graffiti sticky sweet colour of the 80's.
I'll most likely make this piece into products as well,
when I get the time.
I'll close with a gif of the flash of 80s on my drawing:
Well, I am off to do my busy day so I hope all of you find some time to listen to music of any sort that transports you, even if it is to a creepier state of mind.
Feel free to upvote, resteem, and by all means comment.
