Charcoal Drawing - "Thanos"

HelloEveryone!

Welcome back to my blog.
Today I want to present this drawing of "Thanos", the main antagonist of the latest "Avengers" movies. I would like to be able to do all the characters, but they are so many and for reasons of time I do not think I can draw them all, I made a big jump to the villains because I like the details of his face as well as his armor.

Thanos

His name is a play on words representing the god of death Thanatos. Thanos is one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel universe, known as the crazy Titan, his goal is to gather the Gems of infinity and thus achieve universal order (in his own way).
In the comics, many cosmic entities interfere in their plans, being Adam Warlock (who inhabits within the gem of the soul) who manages to stop this conflict and defeat Thanos.

In the movies, the entire team of Avengers is in charge of stopping him using the gems to defeat him.

The skills are:

  • Bionic Amplification.
  • Mysticism.
  • Superhuman strength.
  • Resistance and durability.
  • Telekinesis and telepathy.
  • Material manipulation.
  • Absorption of cosmic energy.
Many of his true powers were not shown in the movies but this is all Thanos can do.

Let´s Draw

My tools:

  • Mechanical Pencil.
  • Hb, 5B, 8B Leads.
  • Charcoal Pencil.
  • Moldable Eraser.
  • Graphite Powder.
  • Brush.
  • Diffuser.
  • A4 Opaline 300G.

  • The steps of this illustration are very short, first I made the sketch with the HB pencil.
  • With the pencil 5B, I made the armor, giving it shape with the 8B pencil and the darkest shadows with charcoal.

  • I illustrated first the right side, where the shadow is stronger.
  • Towards the left side, the light hits very hard so that by making fewer strokes on that side I could make the force of light notice. I made many marks on his armor using the moldable eraser to make them notice.

  • After finishing the armor, I illustrated Thanos' face with graphite powder and a brush.
  • His whole face was made in this way, letting me go with what the brush allowed me to do.

I made some adjustments and it is finally finished.

Making this illustration was simple, but I really wanted to do it, many artists draw this character and I had not had the opportunity to do it.
