Another snowy day here in Minneapolis. The kid is also getting out of school early and has yet again thrown a curve ball into our plans. Gone are the days where I could sit for a large period of time to get into a sketching groove. On the upside, I asked @jthiessen to model for reference in a project that I’m working on. He happily agreed, my friends are the best! If only the snow would stop falling, then I could get started and shoot the footage that I so desperately desire.
Today’s drawing was sketched up a few weeks back but was left incomplete. I knew it was a good choice to save the coloring for later, especially for days like today when I feel scattered and unable to focused.
The progress...

I began the sketch with a pencil then added three layers to thicken the line weight. Afterwards I began shading with a lighter color and gradually worked my way up to a darker shade to sculpt the face and bring further contrast. I finished the drawing with a wash of color to the background and highlights. In some ways this image is still incomplete and I plan on reworking it later.
