Car plate number is common and we see it almost in every car. However, there are car owners who are selective of their car plate number. In certain places, owners can decide what number and wording to be on their car plates. And their choice may also incur higher car registration fee.
From my observation, people choose their car plate number with certain aspiration in mind, if not, they can take whatever being assigned by the registration department. A number can be chosen according to the birthday of a family member, e.g. 1120 is November 20th. There are people who hope that the number put on car plate can bring them luck according to certain sound, although that is often being perceived as a mere superstition by people. Take an example, the sound of 138 according to the Cantonese, a Chinese dialect, implies “a life-long prosperity”.
One of the car plate that I have come across and it is meaningful to the owner as well as to many is “John 14 6”. Those who have some knowledge of Christian belief, it is actually a declaration of Jesus written in JOHN 14:6 of the Bible.
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”

从我的观察，人们会根据个人的愿望选择车牌号码，如果不选择的话，他们则会采用由交通注册部门所提供的车号。有人选用某个数字是因为家庭成员的生日，例如， 1120则是指11月20日。雖然很多人会看某些选择是迷信，但是还是有车主会期望自己的选择会带来好运。例如，有人选用138 号码，根据广东话即中国的一种方言的發音可以读成“一生發”， 即意味着一生發财。
我见过的一个车牌，相信对车主及许多人都有深刻的意义，即是“JOHN 14 6”。如果对基督教信仰有一定認识的人，他们知道这是记载於约翰福音14章6節，耶稣的一项宣告。
耶穌說：「我就是道路、真理、生命；若不藉著我，沒有人能到父那裏去。」
