The Spotlight - SVQ 19: How To Pray

Steemit Vision Quest 19: β€œHow To Pray”. My artwork by @ksenja

prayer is education.

@ksenja is our spotlight artist for the 19th Vision Quest. This original illustration shows us "how to pray," while also providing the context about what prayer means, through the writing of Dostoevsky. What a wonderful way to answer the calling of this Steemit community challenge.

Regarding the lines by Dostoevsky, I love the sentiment about the newness that comes through prayer–fresh perspectives that bring us courage and understanding. Yes! And I appreciate the reminder to pray for those souls outside of ourselves too. So right!

And the visual is stunning. I love the way @ksenja creates an impression I can feel through her drawings. The rose color is strikingly beautiful in the way it is presented it here, with such warmth, bringing to mind Mary Magdalene and Joan of Arc.

The Showcase

Steemit Vision Quest 19: β€œHow To Pray” Un nuevo Dios. by @betzaelcorvo

I am 100% with @betzaelcorvo in celebrating the indigenous cultures. What a great idea to consider the colonization of the Americas, and the ways prayer has evolved through the various cultures and their interpretations of the divine.

I think it's a great conversation this artist raises here, comparing the indigenous' "love and beauty way" versus the conquistadores' "fear and shame way," in relation to prayer. Excellent artwork too, as always. I recognize there are many ways to interpret a vision like this, and I love the fact that art is open to many interpretations. Makes me wonder.

Right now, I'm reading a book called Waterlily, by Ella Cara Deloria, which is a portrayal of 19th century Sioux life, from the women's perspective. This book is a rarity, focusing on the stories of women (as opposed to warriors, the chiefs, or the shamans), given to me by a long-time educator of Native American studies. Such a treat!

Steemit Vision Quest #19: How To Pray? by @fishyculture

As we all know, there are many different styles of praying, and each one is unique to the person praying. It's an intimate and sensitive subject to speak openly about. For this reason, I honor @fishyculture (and all of the participants) for sharing her perspective, so we may all benefit from learning "how to pray."

As some of you know, @fishyculture is a fantastic contributor in the Vision Quest, with her numerous entries and multiple appearances in the spotlight. I appreciate the way she calls the Vision Quest a "Spirit Walk"–I feel the same way about it. I've noticed that the more I pay attention to the spirit realm, the spirits, and Great Spirit, the more spiritually connected I feel, the more inspired I am... I am so very happy to be walking in spirit with you, @fishyculture.

Sigil for A Series of Misunderstandings, Part 2 by @in2itiveart

The intuitive artwork of @in2itiveart amazes me. It's as if the image opens, and then further opens as I see it differently, through another perspective. It reminds me of M.C. Escher's illustrations, except for these are even more compelling, in my opinion. What do you see in this image?

Steemit Vision Quest 19: β€œHow To Pray” by @lildebbiecakes

@lildebbiecakes offers us the perspective of a person who prays daily, along with a solid visual to support her viewpoint. I find it very valuable to learn the healthy habits of a person with a steady, long-time daily prayer practice. Naturally, President Barack Obama comes to mind with this image, God bless him!

She Said Work Better with Polarities by @zetetrahedron369

Interestingly, @zetetrahedron369 created a piece that deals with this topic just before we launched the theme: "How To Pray." My thinking is that spirit is limitless in time and space, and so I welcome this SVQ entry created months in advance. In fact, I love it!

In my interpretation, this is a diagram of the spiritual "planes of existence." It's as if the person at the top-left is stepping forward toward a multi-layered shadow self. I can see how this type of work can be considered a form of prayer. Once again, the artwork is open to various viewpoints, and so I'd love to know how others view this piece.

β€œI Bloom” - Prayer Song for Steemit Vision Quest by @cabelindsay

The familiar phrase "Bloom where you are planted," is a message I found in my dad's handwriting, soon after his passing, and it continues to inspire me. This song is a special kind of prayer–a positive affirmation. Through this song, I express my vision for myself in a way that brings me closer to realizing it, a.k.a. being the change I wish to see in the world.
