Morning Flight

The eagle soared, wide wings filtering the cool air as she road invisible currents to her advantage with eyes pealed toward small animals foraging below. Her duty was to the eaglets tucked in the mountain nest with beaks wide and demanding.

Her hunt today took her mountain surfing and it was late morning already and nothing tempting had presented itself for a breakfast option on the ground. Her wings tipped to the right where a large river moved swiftly down the mountain toward the ocean. As she descended her powerful muscles tensed with the effort of closing into the surface of the river. A large school of salmon, scales glinting through the water betraying their location, were fighting the current below.

Her dive was swift and eye sure. She skimmed the turbulent waters and lowering herself into the water felt her claws wrap securely around a large writhing salmon. Victorious! Her climb with the fish appeared effortless as she winged her way to higher altitudes toward her hungry family. They would be satisfied with today's meal.
