It's downright amazing how many interesting places you can unearth if you look at your homeland and the area you live in as a tourist destination and research it accordingly. Case in point; from the tri-border region of Germany, France, and Luxembourg:

The Château de Malbrouck was built in the early 15th century by Arnold VI of Sierck and was named Meinsberg Castle originally. In later centuries the castle got the popular name „Malbrouck“ – French for „Marlborough“ – because the first Duke of Marlborough used it as his headquarters for a brief period of time during the Spanish War of Succession (1701-1714).
Das Château de Malbrouck wurde eigentlich im frühen 15. Jahrhundert von Arnold VI. von Sierck als Burg Meinsberg errichtet. Später bekam die Burg im Volksmund den Namen „Malbrouck“, französisch für „Marlborough“, weil der erste Duke of Marlborough im Spanischen Erbfolgekrieg (1701-1714) diese kurzzeitig als Hauptquartier nutzte.
Finally, in 1930, the derelict 200 x 165 ft castle was listed as a protected historical monument. In 1975, the French Département Moselle bought the ruin and had it restored to its former glory. Since 1998, the Château de Malbrouck is a venue for exhibitions and events.
Die 60 x 50 m große Burg war fast verfallen, als sie endlich 1930 unter Denkmalschutz gestellt wurde. 1975 kaufte das französische Département Moselle die Ruine und ließ sie aufwendig restaurieren. Seit 1998 wird das Château de Malbrouck für Ausstellungen und Veranstaltungen genutzt.
