Little photo session at Caves Beach, NSW, Australia

My family and I feel very lucky to be living on The Central Coast, we are close to many natural locations: wonderful beaches, mountains, lakes, rivers etc...

This week we are receiving a friend (Frank Williams) who travelled all the way from London and took him out to Caves Beach for a photography session like we used to do back in the UK. He brought his Fuji digital medium format and I was with my... iPhone 8 Plus ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ oh well... didnโ€™t Chase Jarvis say โ€œThe best camera is the one you have with youโ€ ?

Smartphone cameras are getting better and better, better color rendering, better dynamic range, better lenses and so on. Even editing apps are improving at a fast rate. All the photos in this post were taken and edited (Snapseed) on an iPhone 8 Plus.

Caves Beach is a locality on the Swansea peninsula between Lake Macquarie and the Pacific Ocean in New South Wales, Australia. It is part of the City of Lake Macquarie local government area. The locality is named for the large number of caves on the nearby coastline. It has a surfing beach which is popular with the local surfers. It is highly popular for spearfishing, with the premier target species being the elusive red morwong.

On the day we got there, it was supposed to be cloudy and maybe even raining, but we gave it a go as it wasn't too bad when we left my place. As we got there, the sky cleared out and turned out to be sunny and hot! That was our lucky day.

We had a coffee at the cafe near the car park and then headed down to the beach. It was about two hours before low tide which is perfect for this location because the low water level allows you to go inside the caves and reach the other side of the cliff.

The photo at the top of this post was taken from inside the cave of the photo above. It's very cool inside the cave and you could bring a blanket and have a picnic inside the cave or by its entrance. On the other side of the cave is a rocky area with a lot of water pockets and small pools:

As you look around you, more cliffs, more (smaller) caves:

This time, we focused on the rocky area as the beautiful weather and green sea grass just made it magical.

It's just beautiful.

The water coming in and out made the weed move gracefully, it was very relaxing to watch the scene.

Then it was time for some fun with my lovely wife, Minh Sa, posing in various locations.

We ended the trip with an excellent fish and chips at the cafe and headed home. It was an excellent day out, I got to have another photo session out in nature with my mate I haven't seen for ages, my wife got great shots for her Facebook album, my boy enjoyed playing in the sand and we had a frisbee session.
