I've mentioned a number of times lately that I haven't been wandering our yard with my camera lately, for a myriad of reasons. However, sometimes the Universe says, "Hey no worries - we'll send the nature right to your window so you don't have to go outside!" That was the case yesterday. We'd been keeping most of the curtains in the house closed for most of the day, given the hot weather, But early afternoon, the sun had moved to the other side of the house, so I decided to open one of the curtains in our bedroom. As soon as I did, I noticed some big brown creature moving slowly through the dappled sunlight, A second later, my brain registered that it was a deer!

I grabbed my Nikon camera which was luckily only about two feet away from me, and tried to get some decent shots through the not-so-decent window glass. As I snapped away, I realized the deer was most definitely a doe, and she looked like she was carrying some cargo.

As she started to slowly move away, continually eating as she went, I could definitely tell she had a baby on board. Our landlord mentioned to me just a few weeks ago that they have a spot behind their house where deer usually bed down to give birth. While I don't anticipate stalking the woods for Bambi (never say never, though), I will keep my eyes open and hopefully I'll be in the right place at the right time when this new little one arrives.

Oh, and while this last shot isn't great quality thanks to the aforementioned slightly-dirty window, I wanted to give some perspective as to how wicked close she was to our house.

Thanks for this little gift, Mother Nature!
