I always wanted to promote Cebu to a larger community and it seems I found a medium to do that. In my Boracay series, I mentioned that I will be sharing more about Cebu in my upcoming posts. This will serve as the kick off of my Discover Cebu series.
I am not originally from Cebu. I came from the neighboring island of Negros and I spent most of my childhood days from a rural barangay. We transferred here last 2007 due to unforeseen circumstances. It was both a shock and an excitement for me because I would be venturing into a relatively big city. From then on, I have grown to love Cebu and considered it my current home.
Cebu has been very good to me. I was able to finish college in a top university here due to a local scholarship. I am currently working as an engineering supervisor, but it doesn't stop me from doing what I love to do. That's why I'm still able to share my passion with you even if I'm in a very technical field.

Cebu and Visayas Islands is the second Best Island in Asia according to Condé Nast Traveler's 2019 Readers' Choice Awards. This made me very proud and gave me the confidence to share what Cebu has to offer to the world.
Let me start by sharing photos I took from the bridge that serves as the gateway of Cebu to the rest of the world. You see, tourists, both local and international, will land in Mactan-Cebu International Airport and will have to cross in one of the two bridges that connect Mactan Island to mainland Cebu. Most likely, tourists will cross the new bridge or Marcelo B. Fernan Bridge.
Since I work in Lapu-Lapu City, which is in Mactan Island, and live in Mandaue City, I pass by the bridge twice a day. I always love the sunset as view from the bridge especially if I ride a bus. Ever since I got a camera, I always dreamed of taking sunset photos at the bridge, but I didn't have a chance.
Last week, I decided to allocate my Saturday afternoon for this purpose, but I woke up later than intended. I was not able to take sunset photos, but I was not disappointed. I got to practice long exposure photography and marvel the city lights that night.
The bridge in itself is a good subject for photography and I found a lot of good photos featuring that bridge, but I'm not sure if my photos are as good as those. Sometimes I felt that I just clicked and clicked without considering the technical aspect of photography, but it turned out to be fine for me. After all, I felt that I'm always learning.
What I liked about the bridge is it's a vantage point. If you're from Lapu-Lapu City, the greater Mandaue area and part of Cebu can be seen on the left. Cansaga Bay, North Reclamation Area, and Consolation can be seen on the right. Cebu's mountains also be seen in the background.
The old bridge (Mactan-Mandaue Bridge or officially known as Sergio Osmeña Bridge) can be seen on the left which is crossing Mactan Channel, parallel to the new bridge.
I really wanted to take a lot of photos that time, but it rained so I was only able to take a few for this post. I'll be back again next time to catch the sunset and more night photos.
Expect more photos soon! I will continue practicing photography and share them here. Maybe I'll roam around the neighborhood to find something interesting.
I'm excited to share more about Cebu because Cebu City has been recently selected as one of UNESCO's Creative Cities by Design. More about that on the next post. Stay tuned, folks!
