A year ago I was in Europe. Three years ago I toured the east coast, spending over a month wandering from Chicago to Niagara Falls to New York, all the way down to Ocracoke, North Carolina (pictured above). Summer for me is a time of travel, a time of renewal. A time to pursue the things I love. This summer I'm not traveling- there are other goals that I'm chasing instead. But my feet are itching to move, to do something, to get out into the world and see what it has on it's plate for me. I wrote "Sun Showers" based on a bit of that emotion, looking for an outlet. For the longing for the people and situations that are long past, and the emotions that came from that. When my friend Johnny and I were kids, we would play a word game where we would try and come up with names for weird stuff we saw around us. We would often talk about traveling. Every feeling of longing, of reminiscence, is seasoned with memories of him.

Sun showers
The sun shone while the rain poured
And I thought of you
How we would try to create
New names
For the phenomena in our lives
We thought we could do it better
We gave ourselves
new names
But never shared them with the other
The people who have known us the longest
Are the ones we fear judgement from the most
There is no word
For this
