Ibirapuera Park – The Most Visited Park in São Paulo

Ibirapuera Park is the most beloved park of Paulistas and the best known for those who visit São Paulo. The Park was inaugurated in August 1954, in commemoration of the fourth centenary of the city of São Paulo. It occupies an area of 158 hectares (1,584 million square meters), which is equivalent to about 160 football fields.
When we started to write the post, we were even confused about where to start because it is so big and with an infinity of possibilities of leisure that it gets even difficult to get all this in order. It is a totally democratic place, the regulars are sportsmen, families, couples, the gang of friends of all ages and social classes.

It's no wonder that this park is number 1 spot on "what to do in Sao Paulo" on TripAdvisor. The "Best Urban Park on the Planet" has also been voted in 2015 by the renowned British newspaper The Guardian. And it was already champion here in Brazil of check-ins on Facebook, receiving 300 thousand visitors on the weekends.

The park has lakes, bike lane, lighted blocks, trails, jogging, and walking paths, snack bars, fitness equipment, toilets and everything integrated with nature. It is possible to rent bicycles (R $ 5.00 per hour) and also triciclos there. Bikes are often checked and in good condition. In addition, the staff takes rollerblades, skates, skateboarding, bikes, longboards and others who on Sundays vie for a place on the slopes.

Many families have picnics and even birthdays on the lawns. Not to mention the numerous gym classes, yoga, Pilates, martial arts and even canvas painting that take place there.

For those who seek a moment of tranquility amidst nature, the park is ideal. It is possible to find very quiet places even on weekends and observe animals such as woodpeckers, swans, and ducks. In the flora, examples of trees like jabuticaba, and Brazil wood. The whole park is home to 494 species of vegetables, plus 35 of butterflies, 10 of fish, 8 reptiles and 156 birds.

In the midst of all green, you can still find buildings that are focused on the cultural attractions of the park, such as the Afro Brazil Museum, the Pavilion of Brazilian Cultures, Astrophysics School, Biennial Foundation, Museum of Modern Art (MAM) Contemporary (MAC), Oca do Ibirapuera, Planetarium, Japanese Pavilion, and Ibirapuera Auditorium. In addition to the numerous squares and monuments like the famous Obelisk, which is in front of the park.
