Taking the world cup above, the whole cricketing universe would be in serious competition and its not that hard for business owners and media functionalities and stake holders who would want to see to play their cards. That commercial scheme has been happening in all form of sports, not just in cricket. But, advertising is limited to some of the factors which need to be unclosed, I suppose.
I have said earlier few days ago that, if you are in Indian sub continent, in a search of discovering sports activities or fondness, you could potentially see that cricket comes on top of the list. That single game is so unique that it gets most of the outreach, in respect of popularity and fan choice.
People go mad at cricket and the truth is there are some of the spectators and crazy fans who would be ready to spoil their office time or important task just to watch their favourite team or the national side to play.Its these fans inherent instinct that lets them not to settle down in their quest or engage in the regular work that essential for living, but what they does - thats unique to most of the other settings.

I have seen the spectators in Australia, New Zealand, Or in South Africa, even in some of the test playing countries of the Europe - where they are completely different that of from the India. Guess what, the ticket price, thats below the rate those cards are sold at Asian nations big tournaments. Seats are empty even in big tournament’s like world cup played at the above regions of the world accept Asia. How amazing, isnt it ?
What surprises me is this, in this world cup if you are going plan to watch the live match in the stadium, you need to buy them as early as you can before it gets too late to regret. I am not joking, all the first and second class tickets are already sold out and VIP lounge is reserved, so where are the chances for extra visitors to have a taste at enjoying the match along with the huge crowd covering the whole region round the corners ?
What I think is that, the top authority who has the supreme power in the context of decision making and dictating the whole of cricket, ICC even supports the favour of India's willingness to organize world cup whenever they want. It is so obvious that the huge fan-base is what lets them to choose this, not the fact that the highest percentage of the donations to ICC comes from India.
Comparatively, if we draw an analysis we could clearly see that the top two sports that are progressively doing well to gather more of the people and the fan base, apart from football, it would be cricket holding the flags high, despite being the reason that cricket is so expensive and royal a sport.
But whar I think is, ICC has more role to play to let the associate nations to have their Test cricket playing honour and permission, because that not just would be vital for the organisations growth, but the fact that the expansionism of the sport to large and constructive approach. What if 20-25 nations could battle out in the ODI format with more group based divisions such as A,B,C,D,E,F,G etc.
It is a known fact that the subsequent other nations wouldn’t be successful at winning the big matches, but the hope and achievement of participation would greatly avail them the satisfaction of playing and winning a few matches with the stronger opponents. But, ICC seems to be reluctant to this plan, but I hope things might change in the future.
