Work, Work, Work, Work...

"Being your own boss just means you don't any vacations"

Hello there, full-time weekenders!

I wonder if there's been a time in the past 5 years when I haven't worked during a weekend. It seems that even before I finished college, stuff was popping in my "free days" and it was all about the money!

Let's see. When I started to work as a freelance, there weren't free days. Those were more like jobless days and the time spent on them was all about trying to land another gig. It usually didn't work. By that time, most of the jobs I got were from people contacting me. It was an interesting time because it was a full employment of my English skills. And I love challenges, so it was on. And I was on fire with all those translations, transcriptions and proofreading. These are the type of jobs that got me hyped. Weekends were usually the days when I did all the checking on the work I had done during the week. Good thing I'm also a teacher and have a keen eye to check my mistakes.

Then, we move forward to the call-center era. And that's a job I hated. I had to go on Saturday. It was awful. I don't think I have photos of that time. But I'll have a look on my archive. Spending the time calling and receiving calls isn't my thing. Besides, I learned here had disrespectful old people can be. Dreadful job. Do yourselves a favor and never work on a call center for anything. It's a big low on jobs. I would prefer to work on a trash truck than doing this again.

On the subject of working on weekends, I had the chance of working as a teacher as well. Bad job too. It shared the call-center vibes. There was too little time for anything else. So, they were paying for my time, but it felt a lot like slavery. I think most of the jobs are actually that. Only when you work for yourself you can say you're truly free. Good thing that one didn't last. But I worked for 8 - 8 during the week and from 8 - 5 on Saturdays. So, all planning and other stuff was done at night. I kissed sleep good-bye during that time. The call-center had a similar schedule.

And I come to my work as a luthier and content creator. I work every single day. But the schedule is flexible because life doesn't center itself around work. They are interesting jobs even when the paying depends on myself and it isn't much. It is a fulfilling job. More akin to the stuff I did as a freelance during those last years of college. Even when I work on weekends, I love what I do. These are the days in which workshop duties are light and content creation goes along the path of editing videos. Sometimes, there are things to do. So I could go out and do something that will be shared around here. And that also counts as work.

Basically, for this time of my life, there are no weekends. I wouldn't even know what day it is without being used to post every day.

By the way, I did find a photo from the call-center days
