Wanderlust
The alarm clock rang at 7 o'clock in the morning and on the one hand I was anything but excited to get up again after only 4 hours of sleep, but I still looked forward to the coming hours.
Today was a big hike in the Odenwald, together with one of my best friends. We agreed on the whole thing relatively spontaneously, but there is no retreat. We would definitely have a lot of fun.
I went into the kitchen and made some oatmeal with milk and whey protein. Brushed my teeth and packed my bag for hiking. Of course everything at the last minute, but that usually works and proves itself. (Lazy)
I got into my car and drove to my mate. But he and his brother are NEVER on time, so instead of picking him up I had to wake him up, watch him having breakfast, wait until he had a shower and packed his things. No problem, I already expected it.
We drove to Zwingenberg by car. There the little adventure should start by hiking from the "Nibelungensteig" to the "Alemannenweg". A distance of about 30 kilometres and for my first "real" hike a considerable distance. But knowing our fitness, it shouldn't be a big problem, at least not conditionally.
So we just started hiking and realized after a few meters that this was going to be a really cool day. The route included everything a classic hiking trail could offer: Many ascents, descents, beautiful views, from the autumn forest to the lush meadow over open valleys, mountain bike routes, popular hiking sections with a lot of hikers and also narrow lonely paths.
We followed our progress on the map and stuck to the route as best we could. From time to time we got off the track, but we quickly realized that. Every mistake was punished with a few meters more.
Up to kilometer 20 everything was no problem at all, then we both noticed how our passive movement apparatus slowly began to strike. Bones, tendons and ligaments were simply not used to such activities. I also realized very quickly that hiking and jogging are very different in their movement form and movement.
A little tip: As a beginner, start hiking slowly and improve from step to step.
Shortly before kilometer 29 we walked towards the sunset and lay down on a park bench to enjoy the spectacle. The last kilometer was exhausting and outsiders might have thought we were drunk with our gait, but we definitely had a lot of fun today.
Within 8 hours (1 hour break of it) we mastered 30 kilometers and 1100 meters ascent and descent. Of course we burned some calories during this performance, so we had to eat the food afterwards. For the first time we went to KFC and got a bucket with 18 hotwings to share. The cashier was a gentleman and put 20 pieces in the bucket.
They were eaten as fast as they were served. Like wild animals we jumped on them and when we arrived home we prepared a lentil stew with sausages.
According to my Garmin watch, I walked an incredible 50,000 steps today. This is an absolute record for me and I can also feel it in my legs. After dinner I took a shower and after this post I will just go to bed and sleep. I am curious how my legs will feel tomorrow.
As a little bonus for reading (or scrolling through) until the end you get a picture of alpacas we met on the way :D
