There's No Taking Sides Here

In this week’s Battle Mage Secrets, we look at the Taking Sides ruleset and see what strategy works when neutral units cannot be used in battle. This is a ruleset that forces you to choose your strongest Splinter and one where your Summoner can make a big difference.

For this battle, I have gone with Alric Stormbringer as my summoner because I want the +1 magic attack boost in order to hit my opponent with heavy magic attack. I

1st position - The Kraken - I wanted the Kraken's Taunt ability to absorb my enemy's attacks and to allow my other units to attack freely and last longer in battle
2nd position - Djinn Oshannus - Fast attack and also his Void ability helps to absorb magic damage
3rd position - Ruler of the Seas - Explosive damage against my opponent. Also reasonably quick
4th position - Riverboat Captain - A double dose of explosion although a bit slower but still deadly.
5th position - Venari Wavesmith - I wanted some extra shield for my units, especially The Kraken
6th position - Crustacean King - A Tank Healer from long ago, I wanted my Kraken to last as long as possible. Also Djinn Oshannus, should the Kraken die early if my opponent used magic damage

This battle went very well thanks to the Explosion ability as well as the healing and extra shield. By round 2, I had killed 2 units from my opponent's back line. This also took away the 2 extra Shield provided by his Mycelia Queen.

With my opponent's Tank Healer only healing his front unit, it meant that the second in line unit was taking heavy damage from the explosion and not getting healed. Eventually, once his units started to get picked off, it was a downward spiral for my opponent and he eventually lost in 4 rounds.
